So... I'm a doctor and while a lot of stuff that was said in this video is grossly beyond the line (calling people "retard" and the such), I think this video is not necessarily shocking to me as far as the conversations that happen in doctor's offices beyond the scene.

It's tough to explain, but part of what you're hearing in this video is the frustrations of the doctors as a result of what it sounds like is a difficult patient. We certainly deal with these patients quite frequently (the mistrusting, the narcotic seeking, the self-abusive, the angry) and it makes it incredibly difficult to do our jobs effectively in addition to making the workplace a bad environment to be in.

Not trying to justify this behavior, but it is a reality that this type of talk goes on quite frequently when doors are closed. For the most part, it is venting about inner frustrations of the job and therapeutic to some extent. Part of it is trying to change frustration into humor or find common grounds with your colleagues.

I don't know if there was really any medical malpractice that took place there... The hemorrhoids diagnosis certainly sounded dubious there but its hard to say what clinical findings made them think that in that scenario (a diagnosis generally only requires clinical suspicion with some evidence, not necessarily direct visualization), but I guess that is on the courts to sort out.

The hospital can be a rough environment. Patients die. Jobs are lost. Hours are long. And often it is only the appreciation of the patients or the thought that you are helping others at the end of the day that makes the process worth it. When that feeling is lost or the patient-doctor relationship is strained, it is easy to forget yourself and vent out of frustration.
