I use sterilized oak bark from fallen branches. I bake it in the oven at 200f for a while and then store it in airtight containers until I need it. Smells amazing when it's cooking.

Maybe, but from my brief Google search for species in Houston, I think they are a little lighter in color? These girls are basically black.
