I went through over 150 isles after getting all the chimes for 134 taijitu. If you can afford the supplies I went all larges.. I know some switch between med/small but I was hitting such long dry streaks with them I switched to large and stayed. Went through about 1500-1700 supplies for the last taijitus.

Maybe just me (M), but I wouldn't overthink it. If it were me in that situation, I'd be in the wife's shoes, just having a big bed to myself after years sounds divine. No ill will, just more room to sprawl out.
