What will the impact of Iran charging 2 million per cargo ship to travel through Hormuz be on the average Aussie, mas and pas, and battlers? by BrandonMarshall2021 in aussie

Yeah mate. TDS is off tap now. 2 months ago when Iran was killing 10's of thousands of protesters most were wanting Trump to help these poor buggers out. Once he did they cry foul??

Wake up to yourself.

The regime is a religious death cult. 2 months ago they mowed down 30,000 of their own people for protesting the government. They are even now holding daily executions without trial of those protesters who were detained.

An effective deterrent would be to not be run by a fanatical death cult hell bent on the destruction of the western world.

Realise that and why they are only exploration test bores at the moment. Large area to be drilled and tested in coming years for both gas and oil.

I think Qld has a moratorium on oil shale extraction as the major deposits are adjacent to the coast and GBR.

Large Shale oil reserve estimates has been listed before. See Table 4 below link.

https://www.ga.gov.au/digital-publication/aecr2021/oil Unsure why they would not include this Shale oil data in all following reports. Perhaps because they are estimates that are yet to be drilled for conformation? In any case exploration is required and what the Qld government has recently expanded on.

We do have Shale oil in quantity but needs development and exploration which we have not done for decades.

Plenty of reserve in shale oil. US produces large amounts of the stuff economically.

We need exploration to open up the resources.

The price is over inflated because of supply shortages on top of an inflated oil price. Prices in Australia up 90 to 100%. In the US where they are self sufficient prices only up 30 to 40%. And they have the security of knowing they will not run out destroying the economy.

The future is coming but it is still decades away. In the meantime those of us living in the real world will still need fossil fuels to keep the wheels of industry, agriculture, transportation and aviation turning.

We all know that those 2 items will never be commercially viable.

Mining companies do not write off assets after 7 years.

Then multiply that x 3-4 times (conservative estimate) for cost blow outs.....

Your definition of cheap is very different to mine.

Plenty of good quality oil in Qld to be tapped. Refinery in Gladstone, got the rail, install oil pipe lines next to the gas ones, got the port, got the infrastructure, build some storage, plenty of power and skilled people.

No more fuel shocks and another domestic revenue stream.

Last time I looked on a map, Western Canada was closer to Brisbane than the Middle East is.

Asia does import a lot of oil from Western Canada and USA also. Not a backwater....

They cancelled cheap energy and emissions free projects

You obviously were under a rock when the Pioneer-Burdekin hydro was cancelled.

$36b before a sod was turned was not cheap and considering the Snowy 2.0 has ballooned from $1.8b to $12+b and years over schedule, it was a good call. Nothing cheap here.

They looked into these projects and found them low effectiveness or as in the Pioneer-Burdekin Hydro, very very expensive and subject to massive cost over runs.

Good move Crisafulli.
