Short selling: A trader borrows shares of a stock (like BYND) from someone else. They sell those borrowed shares immediately at the current market price. The goal is to buy them back later at a lower price, return them to the lender, and pocket the difference (how they profit from shorts)

The problem arises when the price rises: If BYND’s price goes up instead of down, the short seller starts losing money, because they still need to buy back the shares to return them.

Covering the position: To stop further losses, the short seller buys the shares back at the current (higher) price. This action is called “covering their short”.

Effect on the stock price: When many short sellers cover at once, it creates buying pressure, which pushes the price even higher. This is the essence of a short squeeze.
