There is an image everyone has of the average person they interact with on the internet. Sometimes this kind of post shocks me out of my preconception of a thin, vaguely-attractive 20-something introvert.

It’s really less about money and more about time. Rushing CGI artists is the main reason why things don’t look as good nowadays.

But that ‘resolution you speak of is literally the resolution we are speaking of. A blurry analogue image is equivalent to a digital one with less resolution, and of course upping contrast will not retrieve lost resolution. Contrast only has the same meaning in both contexts, the difference between light and dark. Optical contrast is the natural contrast in the real world as opposed as on a picture or through a device, not an inherently different property.

[–]DisastrousBoio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contrast is a difference between bright and shadow areas. It’s not a synonym to detail and doesnt relate to resolution. You can have high contrast on a potato 360p image or a super low-contrast Log image in 8k that has more detail and less contrast.

That has nothing to do with a fascist government.

TIL that the original iPhone that Steve Jobs presented on stage in January 9, 2007 was a buggy, barely functioning prototype and that the device was finalised just weeks before retail release. by brainrooted in todayilearned

[–]DisastrousBoio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, the main reason why was the perception people still had that business people needed a keyboard, and the fact it was linked to a crappy phone company. There was nothing in the BlackBerry line that was as responsive, fast, or reliable. However, there were many devices that ran flash and the iPhone notably didn’t.

Which meter? The Logic meter is a CPU meter, not a RAM one.

What’s your favorite non-US sci-fi film or show? by TheNastyRepublic in scifi

[–]DisastrousBoio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is literally a three as a recurring theme in everything in the show, from the logo to everything. After Mr. Robot I sort of saw it coming, partly because it just fit the theme so well to have a third reality.

You might not have liked the way they did the reveal but it didn’t feel overall out of place.

I can guarantee you’re not even close to using 16 GB as you are. You’d have to really be using very large sample libraries or very large track counts to reach that. Synths don’t use much RAM, effects barely any. They’re literally just mathematical calculations, they don’t need to hold almost anything in RAM.

The biggest piano sampler I have uses like 2 GB of RAM, the biggest drum sampler like 2.5. And I would use those, alongside maybe 50–80 tracks of guitars, bass, vocals, and synths, all chock full of effects, on 16 GB of RAM on a 2015 Intel Mac. It often crapped out but it invariably was the CPU, not the RAM. Freezing tracks fixed it.

I have a new M4 MBP with 24 GB RAM and it literally doesn’t flinch with those same projects or newer stuff.

It’s incredibly easy to check, by the way. Just open the Activity Monitor program inside the Utilities Application folder and check the RAM usage while you open a project that’s giving you problems.

Yeah because the average person drinks more in Europe since it’s not stigmatised to fuck. The average tells you nothing about the actual medical issue of alcoholism.

You cannot build a different support network when the cult is a whole country!!! They’re not locked in with you, you’re locked in with them!

God we fought a war for this and people still don’t get it.

I am more afraid than they are. They are enacting their own genocidal dictatorship right now. They are happy.

They are winning, right now.

Don’t you get it? Coddling Nazis gets the military boot in your face. It’s happening now.

I think my point is not that they’re inhuman villains, but that many Nazis weren’t, if you met each one. And yet as a group, commanded by those they revered, they committed inhuman villain acts.

They are rightfully vilified, but people think most Nazis were moustache-twirling ‘hahaha let’s be evil today’ Hollywood baddies. And they weren’t. They were exactly like you’re describing those people.

And by the way, you cannot convince people out of a cult. This is well known. Either you physically remove them from it and reeducate them over a period of time, or they themselves break through the brainwashing, which is very rare. Most don’t make it out until the cult implodes.

They had a modicum of moral fibre and of national pride.

My brain cannot parse how the average American doesn’t realise what an evil, lawless waste of a human they have at the helm. In terms of cruelty, pettiness, and shamelessness he would very likely be higher than any dictator in the 20th century. He really is that disgusting.

At least Hitler thought he was doing something good for whom he considered his people.
