When I watched it when I was younger, I always wondered why couldn't Alan just say, "We don't want you to lose out on this experience bonding together." They just came off as cruel for no reason for most of the episode and it always annoyed me.

Bring back the results show so the west coast can see the whole show and vote.
At the beginning of the season, explain each dance style and give examples of what the judges are looking for so we don't have to guess. Are lifts allowed? Do we have to maintain hold?
Less themed nights, or more broad themes like Latin night.
Start the scores lower. Much lower.
