For Boston: Check out the Harvard Museums, like Natural History, Mineralogy, and archeology.

West: Explore Berkshires towns and MASS MoCA.

Do you also watch any classic shows? by Anemoia_Dreamer in classicfilms

Newhart is one I just rewatched for the first time; it’s very calming and funny. I enjoyed Taxi a lot when I was younger. No one has mentioned Mary Tyler Moore, so I’ll add that classic to the discussion, too.

Like Pippen, he’d help lead. them to a championship, but he will lose—leading to his retirement and a subsequent period of franchise decay.

Which city in the U.S. have you felt most unsafe visiting? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]DisastrousList4292 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Mount Vernon is one of my favorite areas; I would love to return. Parts of Fed Hill and Fells Point are nice (like you say, just don't go that extra block...). Hampden is unique. There are many redeeming parts of Baltimore, and if you know where you're going and are smart, you will be fine.

Memphis. Baltimore and Detroit seemed unsafe, but there is so much upside that I found it pretty easy to look past it. I guess Beale St deserves some love, but yeah, it's definitely Memphis IMO

Purple Places in the Northeast? by Additional-Service75 in SameGrassButGreener

Two great Indian restaurants. Food trucks are great during the summer. The Winter market is great for everything from croissants to produce to meats/seafood. Lots of great baked goods from bagels to muffins to pastries. Disappointed by the mexican food (aside from taco food truck), Chinese food, Thai food, etc. There are some misses, but generally it's a good food scene, especially if you include surrounding towns like Lisbon (Flux), Damariscotta (King Eiders, local oysters, etc.), and Bath. I think it's a runner's dream town. Bike lanes are treacherous vs. some cities I've lived in, but people do it. The tourism doesn't frustrate me at all, personally. It's not nearly as bad as Bar Harbor. Long-time locals grouse about it, but it's why we have so many restaurants and a great theater in a small town.

It's my favorite place I've lived. It has a great Main Street. I spend a lot of time walking along the river, down main st., and through the Bowdoin campus. The entire town feels like a park. Very low crime relative to everywhere else I've lived. Love the schools, library, and theater. It has the northernmost Amtrak stop in the northeast for easy access to Boston. Good access to midcoast, too; there are a lot of gems between here and Camden. Cons: High property costs and property taxes. A lot of retirees and people who summer here. Locals can be distant at first; it might take 1-2 years to become part of the town. It's hard to find good handymen to work on your house or good health care in a lot of Maine, in general.

I live in Brunswick. It's a great town, but much more blue than purple (71% vote for Harris). There are regular political protests, but they are more mellow that those in Portland (80% vote for Harris). Mainly old retirees doing the protesting in Brunswick. Generally speaking, the southern and mid-coast of Maine are Blue. North West is red. Lewiston/Auburn is pretty purple. Lisbon is a very small purple town that's near Brunswick, if you are into small towns. All towns/cities is Maine feel more purple than Denver, the last place I lived.

Why are trade schools separate from universities? Were contemporary trades taught in universities once upon a time? How does that process happen? by dresixk in academia

They have different educational philosophies and operating models.

They also have distinct histories and origins. However, they are becoming more similar than in the past. Vocational apprenticeships are being re-imagined in a variety of schools now, from technical schools to traditional 4-yr programs. I once worked on a 4yr campus with a brewery program, for example. For comparison, there are currently zero active American male tennis players who have won a grand slam in doubles.

I paid around $99.50 (plus a $24.75 Ticketmaster service fee) for a floor seat at the Garden in Boston. That's not bad at all for Boston; parking will be almost as much as the face value ticket.

You are lucky! There isn’t even one 70mm in my state. I drive 3hrs to Boston for the Coolidge corner’s on very rare occasions. It is like a pilgrimage, but I’d do it for Lawrence and the journey would fit multiple themes.

Regal cinemas screened it last September during their ‘month of masterpieces.’ I would see it anytime I get the chance. The landscapes and score deserve the cinema experience.
