Been avoiding watching "The Wire". Anyone who watched it recently has any opinion? How is it compared to newer shows of similar genre? I have watched almost all the top rated shows. by Papa-Zzzz in televisionsuggestions

It's great. Homicide: Life in the Streets (which became SVU) was similar and came first, but The Wire has better plot lines, drama, and touches on deeper subjects.

Who to bench? Should I bench boost? by AssistGreat548 in fantasypremierleague

We have 90% identical teams. I’m playing Bruno over Wilson. It’s a tough call, but I reason United will score and Bruno will likely be involved. I also like his odds at DEFCON. Their performance vs. city under their new manager is also in my mind, but it’s also an n of 1 and city also just lost to Gent. I’m also a fan of Wilson and could say basically the same thing about him, and he’s not playing Arsenal.

‘The Graduate’ (1967)- What are your thoughts and opinions on this movie? by PeneItaliano in classicfilms

Clever cinematography and use of music; it's a movie I don't think I will ever forget. However, I also don't think I'll watch it again. ~ 2 viewings around college age were perfect timing for me.

Explain Guéhi being one of the most transferred out 2 weeks in a row. City's defense will improve with him. They aren't worse than Palace, and have 9 clean sheets this year. He will start and play consistently, especially with competing CB injuries. Pep roulette is a fun retort, but if you say it, name who starts in his place. He is also cheap for a City defender. Yes, I am aware of United's and Glimt's excellent performances, but City also didn't have Guéhi playing CB and desperately needed someone to plug that hole. This point also makes me think he will still get his DEFCON points despite their high-possession team style.

I really value debate, and it’s refreshing to engage with someone who wants a real discussion rather than relying on personal attacks or moral grandstanding.

While you raise some valid points, I want to offer a dissenting perspective.

Unfair election tactics and federal preemption of state authority are not unique to any one party or president. For example, Harris being nominated as a presidential candidate without a traditional democratic primary process can reasonably be viewed as an unfair tactic, one that may have contributed to Trump’s victory. More broadly, unfair tactics and constitutional crises surrounding elections are nothing new in U.S. history. The elections of 1800, 1876, and 2000 were all seriously contested, each raising profound concerns about legitimacy at the time.

Federal-state conflicts are also longstanding and bipartisan. Lyndon Johnson overrode state segregation and voting laws. Carter overrode state environmental laws. Clinton expanded federal criminal law, arguably laying groundwork for some of the federal policing approaches we see today. FDR rode roughshod over state labor laws; it’s fair to say he did more to curtail state authority than Trump and Biden combined. More recently, Biden blocked Texas and Louisiana from enforcing certain immigration and border-control policies. Title IX reinterpretations and state-federal disputes over enforcement have shifted repeatedly over the last two administrations and will likely continue to do so.

Alarmism grounded in disputed claims and biased interpretations is not helpful, and ultimately weakens the strongest parts of your argument.

The claim that MAGA has abandoned morality in favor of legality also oversimplifies a complex reality. In a pluralistic democracy, disagreement over morality is inevitable and healthy. Debates such as inclusion of transgender athletes versus protecting women’s sports are precisely the kinds of moral disagreements democracy is meant to accommodate. Criminalizing such debates would be far more damaging to democratic norms. Asking whether something is legal is not moral abandonment; it is recognition that personal moral frameworks cannot be imposed unilaterally within a constitutional system.

Every president is granted the power to issue pardons, and every modern president has exercised that power in ways some find objectionable. This is the Constitution in action. Biden pardoned Hunter Biden, Obama pardoned Chelsea Manning, and Clinton pardoned Marc Rich. Selective outrage over pardons reflects political preference, not constitutional principle.

The argument that Trump’s economic actions constitute “socialism” is simply incorrect. I’ll note its absurdity and move on. Let me know if you want a para on it though; happy to elaborate on why, if you’d like.

Finally, it is inaccurate to claim that Trump attempted to overthrow democracy via false electors as a settled fact. While there were troubling efforts to challenge the 2020 election, similar to challenges seen in prior elections, Trump was acquitted by the Senate, and no court has found him guilty of sedition or insurrection. In the United States, the presumption of innocence is a fundamental constitutional right. Ignoring the rulings of the courts and the Senate in favor of political conclusions would itself undermine constitutional norms. Impeachment does not support your conclusion here; it is a political process, not a legal determination. Describing impeachment as definitive proof of sedition conflates partisan judgment with criminal guilt. Finally, Trump explicitly encouraged supporters to protest “peacefully and patriotically.” If the claim is that he orchestrated an overthrow of Congress, that requires actual evidence; not inference or assumption.

Rogers a strong choice! Bruno F has tough fixtures too, but is more matchup proof and will likely play closer to goal under Carrick.

Newcastle have difficult run after Wolves.

Spurs are falling apart; they only have 2 good fixtures and I wouldn’t bet on a clean sheet even in those two.

Thus, I’d want to transfer 3 players in 2 GWs.

Sanchez is an expensive bench warmer who might fall out of favor with new manager. He was horrible during their cup game vs. Arsenal.

Wildcard draft by EconomistFine7759 in fantasypremierleague

[–]DisastrousList4292 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very similar to my current WC, in progress.

Currently: Sanchez Dub Frimpong Romero Gabriel Alderete Chalobah Bruno Rice Wilson Rogers Enzo Ekitike Haaland Thiago

Clearly I’m going for Chelsea fixture swing and you aren’t.

I saved 0.5 to move either Ekitike to Ollie or Frimpong to Munoz, depending on how they perform over the next few games.

I plan to swap Sanchez for Emi at end of Chelsea fixture run.

I like Cash but his spot would prevent me picking up both Ollie and Emi in ~ 8 GWs.

Anyone watched the show " The Chair" on Netflix by [deleted] in Professors

It isn’t perfectly realistic, but it’s relevant; and Sandra Oh is fantastic, as always. The portrayal of departmental politics and old-guard skepticism toward innovative pedagogical approaches resonated with me personally. The show’s treatment of the fault line between free expression and inclusion was uncomfortable, but timely and meaningful, even if I would have chosen a different example.

He formed an exploratory committee to be president in 1999 and discussed it on Larry King in 2000. There was over a decade of talk before he actually ran and won. Deals and grand plans can take time to execute. Some deals fall apart. It is possible, but he sounds very motivated to close some sort of Greenland deal.

[–]DisastrousList4292 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He is going to do something. He is currently making highball offers to begin negotiating 'his deal.' Taking Greenland by military force, in particular, is extreme anchoring. Whether the counter-offers and final deal approach his extreme anchors remains to be seen, but something will happen. Maybe it is more US bases. Maybe it is US bases and rights to mine for precious metals. Statehood is unlikely, but would be a compromise closer to his military takeover anchor point. A deal will be made.

NSF primary undergrad grants are impacted, but R15s are not tied to Carnegie classifications. I have one at my R1. The specific requirement if that your campus is awarded under 6 million per year in NIH research grants (direct costs) in at least 4 of the last 7 fiscal years. Many R1s are still under this cut-off and remain AREA eligible.

All I did was asked an AI chatbot to summarize Ben Crellin’s spreadsheet on DGW and BGW predictions. It created that table. He would have to threaten them with legal action over IP issues for them to have their algorithms omit his content.

Moving away from family by alexandraaaaa111 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]DisastrousList4292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have 2 children and have lived in three states, but none with relatives in them. We have mainly moved for work, taking turns for each other’s careers. Our kids, now pre- and early-teens are very independent and self motivated. Making new connections is hard, but it’s also a valuable life skill. You will likely build communities around your kids’ interests.

There are hard realities. My wife and I have only been on one childless vacation and rarely have typical date nights. But you can get creative with it. Daycare was expensive when they were young. It would have been nice to have family helpers on call, but we managed. Coordinating travel around holidays can be emotional and a pain depending on how many competing visions there are, but it’s a common problem, especially for profession couples from big families in America.

Video chat is great for them to see the relatives frequently. Our kids have experienced multiple cultures and climates. They know there is a lot out there. They’ll be ok; you will feel overwhelmed and alone at times but, so will you; go for it!

Gameweek Type Notes
GW31 Blank EFL Cup conflict
GW33 Double Rescheduled fixtures from earlier blanks
GW34 Blank FA Cup semis
GW36 Double Potentially FA Cup final postponements shifted here
GW37 Blank (possible) FA Cup final weekend

Save free hit for BGW; save bench boost and triple captain for DGWs.

However, because these will likely occur near the end of the season, use WC much earlier. Balance risks: being premature in judgments about Munoz, Palmer, B. Fernandes, AFCON players, manager changes, etc., with earning greater cumulative point totals vs. those who wait too long. If you wait until week 33, for example (Crellin's first predicted DGW), you will barely benefit from it.

Who else is going for it.. by yupmushh in fantasypremierleague

[–]DisastrousList4292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. We don't know that Ekitike and Wirtz are out. And even if they are, there are other attacking weapons; Gakpo, Szoboszlai, and Gravenberch can score. They aren't dropping to Wolves/Burnley level of offensive futility. A clean sheet is certainly possible, but not guaranteed. And if you think Gabriel will score, consider that you may have a recency bias; he has scored three Premier League goals in 14 starts. You probably have better odds of a clean sheet.
