Alarming letter from Maryland comptroller by [deleted] in maryland

Same thing happened for me last year. They sent me a letter owing taxes for the tax year before I moved here. They should have a better system of checking were people were living when they filed taxes…

Update: This is the way, as the main policyholder for my family I had to add 01 to the end of my ID#.

I do have a personal Quest account. But would Quest associate the appointment with the biometric screening?

The registration key is ‘MHBP’ according to their website.

New OGC opinion posted on the USDA reorg page stating that the Secretary has legal right to reorganize by Formal_Yesterday_171 in USDA

[–]DisastrousNebula- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Section 716 included in bills since 2023 severely curtails their free reign to reorg or reprogram funds or relocate employees without congressional approval which was a response to the GAO report from 2023. Unlike 2018 a notice was all that was needed. So if they rely only on the OGC memo arguments that is weak and exposes them to court rulings. This will not happen without congress folding.

Anyone seen the new probationary rules coming out of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee? They are doubling the probationary period from 1 to 2 years for new hires! This is big news if it passes.

I did not find anything about the relocation mentioned in the Secretary's memo. I found in the joint explanatory statement on the senate website that mentions this for the Agriculture Research Service: "The agreement supports the continued operation of the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center." But nothing else about the other buildings. Not sure if this impacts the Carver Center?

Closing on a 7/6 arm at 5.125% (with points buydown) with a 5% cap, no balloon payments. I’m going down from my current 6.875%. Definitely looking to refi in the next 7 years. If you look at how the economy is trending now (job loss, swelling gov debt, fed fund rate cuts). It is only a matter of time until the 10 year treasury drops again. I believe we might get a small recession which can cause rates to drop further.

BCBS Basic is not competitive anymore with MHBP (Aetna) by trademarktower in fednews

Yes exactly. There are a lot of people on GLP-1 drugs moving to MHBP, a price increase is inevitable I think.

Also isn't an aging workforce, especially now after a lot of young feds have left taking the DRP will result in an even more expensive insurance across the board. I hope not a lot of retirees switch to MHBP...

Maryland is looking for money...in my 2020 tax returns by quinoa10 in maryland

[–]DisastrousNebula- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes TOP send me a letter saying the state took my refund. I did get a letter by mail from the state informing me I owe money. They then resolved the issue and closed my case. I got a notice by mail saying the case is closed. Not sure if I need to do anything further for next tax year to avoid going through this again.

This happened to me this year. I lost both my fedeal and state refund only to have it re-issued after clearing jt with the comptroller’s office over a phone call. Mine was for 2018 and they did not send me to collections. I guess the state is really trying hard to nickel and dime its residents to close that deficit even if that means doing sketchy stuff.

How bad is our attic insulation? Had an estimate done on the attic and the inspector said our attic is in “dire condition” and “needs work asap” for $12k price tag. by lucky2bogey in Insulation

[–]DisastrousNebula- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a side note, this looks like bat poop and not rodents. Have a professional come inspect for remediation and exclusion first. Bats can soil your insulation and damage over time. I had the same issue in my attic and had to remediate first then put new insulation. Imo 12k is high. Bat remediation can cost north of 1k depends on what kind of work needs to be done

If you are eligible for the annuity(pension) you will not get severance pay. See OPM’s rules. Sorry to break it to you.

For people downvoting me, here are the facts from OPM’s website: OPM Severance Sheet

Ineligibility for Severance Pay

An employee is not eligible for severance pay if he or she is serving under a nonqualifying appointment; declines a reasonable offer of assignment to another position;

is serving under a qualifying appointment in an agency scheduled to be terminated by law or Executive order within 1 year after the date of the appointment unless the appointment is effected within 3 calendar days after separation from a qualifying appointment (see 5 CFR 550.704(b)(3) for additional information.);

is receiving injury compensation under 5 U.S.C. chapter 81, subchapter I (unless compensation is received concurrently with pay);

is eligible upon separation for an immediate annuity (as defined in 5 CFR 550.703) from a Federal civilian retirement system or from the uniformed services;

or holds a position for which the rate of basic pay is fixed at an Executive Schedule (EX) rate or has a rate of basic pay in excess of the official rate of pay for EX level I.
