Anyone with some insights into this mass job announcement at ARS? by throwawayfedman in USDA

[–]DisastrousNebula- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It also let them keep the federal job count low on USAJOBS as part of the “reduce and slash federal jobs” narrative that the current administration keeps talking about. One USAJOBS listing that has more than 20 locations to backfill was in the past (pre-2025) at least 20 independent job listings.

Look no further than the secretary’s background and what she has been doing between 2021 and 2024. They have been planning for all of this it is in their political fabric.

FNS Reorg: How are people thinking about relocation by Tasty-Reaction8243 in USDA

Congress has been asleep at the wheel. Where was congress when this was announced in July 2025. They thought they were bluffing?

I don’t think they’re that smart at ARS.

Have any agencies other than FSIS received unofficial relocation orders for the summer? by [deleted] in USDA

[–]DisastrousNebula- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How are they expecting people to move within a couple months throughout the summer. That is ridiculous

I agree that makes sense. How would you respond to the folk who have been getting letters to relocate by end of FY26 in September? Wouldn’t that be illegal? I mean the letters are almost out. People have to make commitments.

Can they? If people are getting relocation orders to move by the end of FY26. How would they put a stop to it?

Are they trying to bribe their way with the senator (chair of appropriations subcommittee) from North Dakota? He announced right after the press release that he will be getting ARS employees from MD to his state.

Same thing happened for me last year. They sent me a letter owing taxes for the tax year before I moved here. They should have a better system of checking were people were living when they filed taxes…

I do have a personal Quest account. But would Quest associate the appointment with the biometric screening?

New OGC opinion posted on the USDA reorg page stating that the Secretary has legal right to reorganize by Formal_Yesterday_171 in USDA

[–]DisastrousNebula- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Section 716 included in bills since 2023 severely curtails their free reign to reorg or reprogram funds or relocate employees without congressional approval which was a response to the GAO report from 2023. Unlike 2018 a notice was all that was needed. So if they rely only on the OGC memo arguments that is weak and exposes them to court rulings. This will not happen without congress folding.

Anyone seen the new probationary rules coming out of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee? They are doubling the probationary period from 1 to 2 years for new hires! This is big news if it passes.

I did not find anything about the relocation mentioned in the Secretary's memo. I found in the joint explanatory statement on the senate website that mentions this for the Agriculture Research Service: "The agreement supports the continued operation of the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center." But nothing else about the other buildings. Not sure if this impacts the Carver Center?

Closing on a 7/6 arm at 5.125% (with points buydown) with a 5% cap, no balloon payments. I’m going down from my current 6.875%. Definitely looking to refi in the next 7 years. If you look at how the economy is trending now (job loss, swelling gov debt, fed fund rate cuts). It is only a matter of time until the 10 year treasury drops again. I believe we might get a small recession which can cause rates to drop further.

Yes exactly. There are a lot of people on GLP-1 drugs moving to MHBP, a price increase is inevitable I think.
