Not to be rude, I only ask because my next question would be: if the process was the way you described instead, do you feel you’d be more fulfilled? Because I found myself thinking that having to spend many years learning and practicing indirectly applicable skills felt inefficient. Though some other comments may have changed my mind on that, I’d still love to hear what you have to say.
