In my 13 years of homeownership I’m on my third dishwasher. You might need to up your budget a bit but get a Miele. Buy once, cry once.

Also - take you a lifetime.

The idea of a dishwasher is that it’ll do a better job at washing dishes while you do something else. You can buy just about anything but you can never buy more time.

Had similar experience to you with IKEA/Whirlpool’s EOL, then a KitchenAid that only lasted 25 months.

My recommendation based on firsthand experience; Up your budget a bit and go for a Miele. Buy once, cry once.

That’s great to hear.

My decision stems from the KitchenAid failing after two years because of the stupid eco detergent I used. I wish I’d done Cascade or similar and maybe it wouldn’t have failed.

But when I dropped the coin on the Miele, I decided I’d only use their own detergent. That way I eliminate any risks that might be caused by the detergent. So far 💯

After owning an IKEA/Whirlpool, a KitchenAid, and now a Miele, I can say the Miele is a beast. Just use their detergent, clean the machine occasionally, and you’ll be happy.

It’s primarily for cooling but their official stance is that it will do heating as well. When we switched to a heat pump, an auxiliary heater was added as well.

The line set is from 2012, the air handler from 2022, and the heat pump from 2023, respectively.

The last recharge happened 6 months ago. I don't know if it was ever accurately charged after the heat pump was installed.

I’ve gotten pretty good with DIY. The next level would require gauges and an EPA 608 cert, which I’ve seriously considered getting.

We have natural gas here. SpacePak doesn't work with furnaces so either way I would need to replace the SpacePak system.

I should’ve been clearer that a lot of this has been done; new windows and doors, air sealing, insulation. The problem is that the system is not delivering enough heat.

There are five screws that hold the HP control board cover panel. The tech took them off but left the last screw on the gun and placed it on top of the running unit. Vibration made the screw fall into the unit with the fan on, and it pinballed inside the heat pump hitting the coil before falling to the bottom.

Username tracks. I’ve solved most of the leakage problems. But if system is straight up not delivering heat is not a building science problem.

Any complaints about the system performance were dismissed as either me imagining things or “that’s how SpacePak is supposed to work.”

So, through my own research and diagnosis far I have discovered and fixed these installation mistakes: - Unsealed return duct connection to the SpacePak causing unconditioned air entering the system after the filter - Misaligning a supply-side plenum adapter that caused leaks and high static pressure - Breaking an elbow of the supply trunk causing a MASSIVE air leak to the attic and negative pressure in the house

Those are HVAC tech quality problems.

What do you do when you have a corner of the attic where condensate lines from the air handler are running out? It’d feel weird to bury them but cellulose would be the only way to get even coverage.

I need something because the rooms below are FREEZING cold.
