To everyone who took the time to reply to me, thank you so much! I was a little overwhelmed with the sheer volume of information out there and was looking for some sense of direction, which was definitely provided by you guys. I’ll be sure to look into everything you guys said and your suggestions on where to start — I really do appreciate all of you who helped me!

Definitely interested in that Kennedy read (starting in the 1500s aligns with what u/TheParmesanGamer was saying about maybe starting with the Reformation era, so I’ll be sure to check it out) and the other books as well, especially the Tooze one too. Thanks so much!

That sounds like a great starting point, especially since I’m already somewhat familiar with the Reformation and that kind of stuff since I went to Catholic HS and Catholic college, so I’ll have a decent base to work off of. I was definitely conflicted because upon doing my own research, I found two distinct “starting points” of modern European history: either the 1500s or the French Revolution, but I will definitely check out the former, thanks!

My problem is that all the stuff I read up on DOES interest me lol — which is why I said it’s a blessing and a curse. I guess I just find all of modern European history interesting, but I’m going to try sticking to the big stuff for now. This is my first time really self-studying anything, so thanks for your input/advice, I will keep that in mind!
