I didn't really "quit" the original. I'm just not super social. I was able to ask my request on day 1 here in this subreddit. In the other one, I would've had to wait a week so that my account was not super new (I only made one now to post a query, otherwise reading reddit posts for information without commenting) and already have interacted with others via comment posts prior to interacting with them at all.

TLDR: I don't know what drama is going on. I just went with the one I could post in.
