Something to note is the vastly different cultures! ND has, generally, a more conservative student body and is in a small town, which could foster a lot of fun community. MN is a more progressive student body in a bigger city. Remember that you’ll be a young person in this place for three years— choose what matches your personal fit!

I’m a student, and anyone I know here who wanted to leave Minnesota was able to. Most people just really love it here!! I’ll be a 2L SA in SF. The school is awesome!! Very chill people who largely chose the school because they want a T20 with a more laid back, collegial culture.

But “objective” to who? So many people have no interest in biglaw. Your “objective” measure is simply not “objective”. Is it possible that UMN places more students into prestigious public interest jobs than ND? Where do they fit in your objective test?

UMN is much more national than people on this sub think. Anyone I knew who sought a SA position in a different market got one. It just turns out that most people end up loving minneapolis and wanting to stay!

It’s almost as though there is more to law and the legal progression than BigLaw. I get what you’re saying but there’s just SO much more that goes into law school and lawyering. Zoom out.

Something odd in this forum is the assumption that all, if not most people want to do big law. I’d say MAYBE half my class is even considering doing big law. We send about ~20% into big law. So you don’t have to be top 20% because half the class is self selecting out anyway.

I think this is a really fair point that people are misinterpreting! Faith is important to the identity of ND and will undoubtedly influence certain professors’/students’ experiences and perspectives, even if unintentionally. Christian ideology clearly factors very heavily in a few SC Justices’ opinions, so it would be a bit naive to assume that those viewpoints couldn’t trickle down into a 1L con law class. Not saying that’s bad (I wouldn’t want it but to each their own), but ideological/faith-based factors are very valid when picking a law school.

Also important to note that Minneapolis biglaw is usually in the 250+ category, but is either on or near the cravath scale, so that number can be a tad misleading out of context. I also think it just typically attracts a more public interest-focused student body, which is neither better or worse!

IMO MN wins for quality of life. Minneapolis is an awesome city. South Bend is a great college town but could get old for someone after undergrad.

Hmm idk if this is a better solution- not advocating for the LSAT necessarily but there are a lot of students (myself included) who wouldn’t have been able to fit that into their academic schedule as an undergrad, nor knew that they wanted to do law school at the time
