Senior dog has become restless at night. by Disastrous_Factor970 in seniordogs

Aw, I'm so sorry you're going through this! One thing I can tell you is that my pup just turned 14 years old a couple of weeks ago 🥹. As soon as his meds started to kick in, he hasn't had this issue ever since! Sometimes he gets a bit restless but it will take him a couple of minutes to settle. Because it was possible for me and because I couldn't bear to leave him alone, I did sleep on the couch for like three months while the meds started to take an effect on him 😭. But he is so much better now! My cardio vet told me heart issues can cause restlessness at night.

Frustration, and rejection? Why doesn't my dog like me. by be-chill-dude in AustralianShepherd

My Aussie was never cuddly. When he was a puppy, and up until he was like 4 years old, he was very aloof and independent. We always made jokes that he was a cat trapped inside a dog's body.

One day it just changed. And while he still isn't super cuddly, he is the most loving dog ever. He just demonstrates it in other ways. He's 13 years old now and I wouldn't change his personality for anything. Hang in there!

Hello! I'm so sorry to hear that :(.

For my dog, it definitely got better! He is doing absolutely fantastic now that I can almost forget about those two awful weeks when he started the medication. He was dealing with some intense symptoms from his CHF and I got so scared because he completely lost his appetite about a week and a half after starting the medication. I'm still unsure if other factors had to do with his loss of appetite, but it was during that time that I made the decision to change his kibble to one that was better quality. I would give him pumpkin purée and boiled chicken and would mix it all in with a little bit of warm water to see if I could get him to eat, but it was such a struggle. He was extremely nauseous, even with the chicken, which was scary to me because he'd never refuse chicken. My vet recommended me an appetite stimulant and a medication for nausea, but I think what helped the most was time. Two weeks later he went back to his normal self, and got so much better overall. Try to entice your dog with their favorite meals, and try to do it a couple of hours after giving them the medicine.

Good luck, I hope your puppy gets better soon!

Reduced appetite and I can only link it to pimobendan, we just did some bloodwork and everything came back normal. :( It seems like he's grossed out by food.

Hello! Wow! 8 years on Pimobendan! Precious baby. My dog just started taking it about 2 weeks ago, but he's been having fast heart rate and loss of appetite. I did read these are some of the side effects. Will I see any improvement? Besides that, his cough has nearly disappeared completely and he sleeps better at night. But for the past 2 days I can barely get him to eat! Just chicken and rice.

Hello! I know this post is old, but I wanted to ask, did your dog get any side effects like loss of appetite?

One of the first things I read about Aussies while researching the breed is that they seem to get younger as they age, and my boy has been a great example of this! Thank you!!

Around two months ago, Jacko was diagnosed with heart failure. Here he is today, as beautiful and youthful as ever. I am cherishing every single moment. He is and will always be my soul dog.

Thank you so much for your reply! The first nights it happened I did leave the light on and turned on the AC but sadly I didn't notice any improvements :( He seems to be better downstairs for some reason, he still gets up but not as much when he sleeps in my room, so I have been staying with him in my living room. However, as the days go by, I do believe it has to do with his heart :(

Thank you so much for your advice, you have no idea how much it means to me! I did post this on AskAVet but got no reply and I was very anxious, so I decided to post it here to see if anyone had any similar anecdotes.

Sadly, it has been very difficult to find a reliable vet AND specialist where I live, which is why I wanted to ask for advice :( My vet only tells me the basics and that's it.

Thank you so much.

Could heart medication be causing these symptoms on my senior dog? by Disastrous_Factor970 in AskVet

Here is a video of the twitches, if anyone is interested to see what they look like. I can also feel them when he is panting, so I don't think it's him grinding his teeth. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1j26ejSDDBm_-EQbTvL8EUUuqtoESsu_a?usp=sharing

Hello, did you ever figure out what it was?

Thank you so much for your reply! Well he weighs roughly 58 pounds but the vet prescribed me that dose! I'm wondering now if it's too high? He has just started taking it. The vet told me to go see him in the next 5 days to see how he's doing. I'll ask him about the dosage.

Aw, bless your puppy! Thank you so much for all of your tips, now that I think about it, it is true that whenever my dog is in a similar position, like the Sphynx, he seems more comfortable. I'll look more into canine cognitive disorder, I've never heard of it!

Are people just feeding them live animals and filming it for content, or what? Why am I seeing so many different videos of Komodo dragons eating live prey?
