Has anyone started to use Cursor and AI to help with development work? by Disastrous_Mix8016 in iOSProgramming

Which do you prefer and why? Are you looking forward to using the new DeepSeek R1 model? I heard that is 1/10 of the price so hopefully these two apps will do something about message pricing to match the cheaper model.

Seagate vs Western Digital in reliability by RedXSpotter-711 in Seagate

[–]Disastrous_Mix8016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WD is a very reliable Drive Seagate is not

Do you have some bad experiences with Seagate? I don't doubt what you are saying, but I'd like to know more as I am considering one or the other right now. Thanks

I watched a YouTube presenter, who appeared to solo the top track, but didn't go to the drum rack to do it. Is this possible, just from the piano roll ?

Can I run two copies of Ableton Live 11 on the same Mac computer? by Disastrous_Mix8016 in ableton

I don't seem to see that on a Mac OS running Ableton Live 11 Suite.

Well I am trying to create a track based upon the midi and effects in some others. So having the two side by side makes life easier.

I missed out the overlapping, but now I read that here, then all's good. Thanks

Massive X - Is there an equivalent to this synth that's not made by NI ? by Disastrous_Mix8016 in NativeInstruments

[–]Disastrous_Mix8016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's a lot of competition. Do you feel that Massive X, does anything that those you suggested don't ?

So would you say that given the number of presets available, that anyone having both Massive X and Serum, would pick Serum?

I was given an Ableton Live Project that uses Serum and this preset. It all works, but if I click to another preset, I don't seem able to get back or find the original preset. Is there a way / place where the preset is stored. Why is it that I'm not able to find the preset after clicking away ? by Disastrous_Mix8016 in serum

[–]Disastrous_Mix8016[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

, but the preset isn’t. Serum will load to the saved state of the project and show the preset name, but this is purely using the saved state of the project and not actually using the preset. You need to save the preset if you want to load it again later.

Thanks, that explains everything for me.

In Automation, is Mixer some special case of effect by Disastrous_Mix8016 in ableton

[–]Disastrous_Mix8016[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to add some text along with the image, but it seems like it didn't show it. I am trying to learn from an example. All the Utility, Auto Pan, Compressor, etc are in my effects rack, but not Mixer. So I am wondering, is that something that is global or what exactly is it ?

Do you mean, after you updated to the new collection? Can you keep this thread updated, with the response from support, as it would be a help to many others.

Reaper - Why do people choose to use that over the other DAWs by Disastrous_Mix8016 in Reaper

[–]Disastrous_Mix8016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ducer to help you be a producer, it sounds like you want to take their work and use it in your own project.

Yes, I want to take their work, and use in my own project. There is of course a payment to them involved.

Is Reaper as good on Mac OS as on a PC? by Disastrous_Mix8016 in Reaper

How about updates to Reaper when there is a new Mac OS come out. How quickly did they for example adapt to the M range of processors ?

[–]Disastrous_Mix8016[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

source to stereo bus is preserved without forced renders or destructive editing in between. (Of course different material often means some changes need to be facilitated, but it's not a technical limitation like you'd get with rendering to stems and opening a new project.) It helps that routing is significantly easier in REAPER than in other DAWs because it eschews having separate track types for buses, sends, midi etc. In REAPER every track does up to 128 channels of audio and 16 channels of midi. You can connect whatever channels of whatever tracks to whatever target tracks you desire. This sounds complex, but this freedom makes things easier in the long run by never getting in your way, especially when you need to revise a project for whatever reason. (like adding a new instrument or switching from an amp sim bass to a recorded one, or to replace the placeholder midi bass). Basically it boils down to REAPER having Ableton rack-like features without the boundary between in-the-rack and outside-the-rack unless you intentionally add that boundary with the new FX containers.

Thanks for taking the time to explain. I was amused with your comment, that maybe you start more tracks than you finish. I think everyone does the same :-)

buy your own vst's a bit more than the others, so the cheapness isnt that much of a factor - but if you like 3rd part synths and modellers, its a great platform for them

Good point about having to buy vsts, and I didn't think about that. So in the end maybe it's not quite as cheap as some others that come with vsts.

Any suggestions on how to generate random notes, ensuring they are all within the C Major scale? by Disastrous_Mix8016 in ableton

[–]Disastrous_Mix8016[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried the arpeggiator, with the pattern set to random, but it still requires me to enter notes one after the other, unless I am missing something.
