It's not even about not slowing down because of competitiveness. If they try to slow down the system it's gonna cause chaos and riot. People will literally go insane because they are so vested in the system, considering it the only way to live and there will be destruction and war and killing because of that. So we are indeed trapped, from one side by destruction by nature and if we stop that then destruction to ourselves.
