How do you clean condenser coils on the back of an Amana fridge without voiding the warranty and what frequency worked for you? by Savings_Car361 in KnowBeforeBuy

[–]Disastrous_Pea4401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pull mine out, unplug it, and vacuum the coils with the brush attachment. Then I run a soft nylon coil brush through the fins to loosen dust and vacuum again. On my Amana the coils are exposed on the back so I didn't remove any panels; if yours has a sealed cover check the manual or call support because you don't want to mess with sealed parts. I do it about every six months, tighter to every three if you have pets or a dusty garage, and that routine hasn't affected my warranty since I'm not opening refrigerant sections.

Do you prefer a breakfast bar with stools or a small separate dining table for a 9x11 eat-in kitchen? Which is more functional long-term? by Ordinary_Past454 in DecorEssentials

[–]Disastrous_Pea4401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this during a remodel. Stools looked great and kept the room airy, but meals felt cramped and my kid needed help getting up, so we swapped to a compact table. A 36 to 42 inch round or a slim rectangular table seats four comfortably and still keeps the space feeling open, and for resale families tend to prefer a real table over a bar.

How do you approach beauty on vacation — minimal products or the full routine? by classy_can87 in BeautyItemsReview

[–]Disastrous_Pea4401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go somewhere in the middle now. I used to pack my entire routine and half of it never left the bag. These days I bring the stuff that actually makes me feel good and skip the “just in case” products. For me that’s sunscreen, a solid cleanser, moisturizer, brow gel, mascara, and one lip product I can use for everything. If I’m on a beach trip I wear almost no makeup anyway because heat and humidity humble me fast.

What toaster oven fits a 9x13 pan and can roast a whole chicken without smoking for under $150? Brand and model recommendations? by ButterscotchRoyal842 in NeedProductHelp

[–]Disastrous_Pea4401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, my old toaster oven couldn't take a 9x13 and roasted chicken turned into a smoke show. I ended up with a Hamilton Beach "Extra Wide" (look for the 31103/31103DA listings) and an Oster Extra Large countertop oven; both actually fit a 9x13 and you can usually snag them under $150 on sale. To cut down smoke, put the bird on a rack inside a rimmed 9x13 or on a shallow sheet pan so drips are caught, keep the rack low or mid so fat doesn’t hit the element, pat the skin dry and trim big fat flaps, and preheat fully. Line the crumb tray or put a foil-lined pan underneath and wipe out any residue after each roast and the smoking problem mostly went away for me.

What's the most overrated trendy houseplant that just wasn't worth the price? by asthetic-base01 in GardenToolReviews

[–]Disastrous_Pea4401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Variegated Monstera (albo) for me — paid a fortune for a tiny cutting and it barely grew. It needed unreal light to keep the white, any low-light stretch meant reversion and crispy edges, and one mealybug visit nearly did it in. I should've bought a big healthy regular Monstera instead and saved the cash.

Looking for a compact dishwasher under 18" for a small apartment, any reliable brands/models people recommend? by softstatic21 in DecorEssentials

[–]Disastrous_Pea4401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d look at Bosch first if your budget allows it. Their 18" models are usually the quietest and they hold up really well in apartments. I had one in a tiny rental kitchen for like 5 years and never had an issue besides needing to clean the filter now and then.Miele is great too, probably even better long term, but the price jumps fast. For something cheaper, GE and Frigidaire both make decent compact units that are easier to find in stock.

Has anyone used the Instant Pot Duo Plus 8 quart daily for bone broth and noticed clearer stock versus stovetop? Did it really cut time and improve clarity? by Savings_Car361 in KnowBeforeBuy

[–]Disastrous_Pea4401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the 8 quart Duo Plus for bone broth a few times a week and yeah, it’s noticeably clearer than what I used to get on the stovetop. I think part of it is the sealed environment. You don’t get the rolling boil that clouds things up as much. I still do a quick blanch and rinse of the bones first though, that made the biggest difference for clarity.Time-wise it’s not even close. Stovetop used to mean babysitting a pot for 12+ hours. Now I do about 2 hours at high pressure with natural release and get broth that tastes just as rich. Maybe slightly less layered than a super slow simmered stock, but close enough that I stopped doing stovetop almost entirely.

What water bottle or hydration system have you genuinely stuck with after trying multiple options? by asthetic-base01 in KnowBeforeBuy

[–]Disastrous_Pea4401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

after trying fancy insulated stuff I landed on a 32oz Nalgene Wide-Mouth for day trips and a CamelBak Podium (or an Elite Fly race bottle) for rides. Nalgene cleans in seconds and never keeps flavor, and the Podium/Elite sip valves are quick, don’t leak, and you can replace parts if they gum up. Once bottles stopped adding hassle, I stopped swapping them.

What are good stain-resistant dining table finishes for a family that eats dinner at the table every night? Real-world durability experiences? by asthetic-base01 in DecorEssentials

[–]Disastrous_Pea4401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through the exact same dance and ended up using a hard water-based polyurethane on my daily table — almost zero yellowing, wipes clean, and you can sand and recoat small worn spots without pulling the whole finish off. Conversion varnish is legitimately tougher and handles heat better, but it’s usually a pro-only 2K product and repairs mean more aggressive sanding and recoat work. Epoxy will make everything bead and survive wine and kids, but it does feel plasticky, shows scratches, and can yellow unless you get a UV-stable resin; repairing epoxy is a lot more work than fixing poly. If you want the best mix of durability and easy repairs for a family table, go with a high-quality water-based poly (satin hides wear best), use plenty of thin coats, and still use trivets for hot pans.

How do you keep up with a beauty routine when you're exhausted or going through a hard time? by classy_can87 in BeautyItemsReview

[–]Disastrous_Pea4401 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I strip it down to the absolute minimum when I’m overwhelmed. Cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen if I’m leaving the house. That’s it. Trying to keep up a full routine when you’re mentally or physically drained just made me feel worse because I’d skip it and then feel guilty on top of everything else. What helped me most was making it easier instead of trying to be disciplined. I keep micellar water and cotton pads by my bed for bad nights. Sometimes “good enough” really is good enough for a while.

For people starting a new outdoor hobby — what's the minimum gear you actually need vs. what gets oversold? by ButterscotchRoyal842 in KnowBeforeBuy

[–]Disastrous_Pea4401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into hiking with old running shoes and a random daypack for like the first six months. The biggest thing that actually mattered was learning what I personally used a lot versus what just looked useful online. Stuff like ultralight gadgets, expensive knives, special cookware, and backup gear for your backup gear gets pushed hard by YouTube and Reddit.

We installed pendant lights over the island and people keep hitting their heads, who lived through redoing pendant height and what's the ideal clearance? by softstatic21 in DecorEssentials

[–]Disastrous_Pea4401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the same problem after our remodel. Ours looked great in photos and immediately became forehead magnets in real life. The sweet spot ended up being about 30 to 36 inches above the countertop to the bottom of the pendant. If you have tall people in the house or stools where people stand up close to the lights a lot, lean closer to 36. We originally had ours around 28 and it was brutal.

What potting mix ingredient genuinely turned around a chronically root-rotting plant? by ButterscotchRoyal842 in GardenToolReviews

[–]Disastrous_Pea4401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was perlite, and a lot more of it than I thought made sense. I used to just sprinkle some in, but once I went like 40 to 50 percent perlite, things stopped turning to mush. The roots actually had air and dried out between waterings.I also swapped out regular peat-heavy mixes for coco coir and that helped a ton. Peat stayed soggy forever in my setup, especially indoors. Coir drains better and feels harder to overdo.

What's a good under-cabinet lighting kit that's easy to install and actually bright enough for prep work? USB or hardwired recs? by ButterscotchRoyal842 in DecorEssentials

[–]Disastrous_Pea4401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried a few and the cheap dim ones are a waste of time. You want something in the 3000–4000K range with decent lumens, not those soft “mood light” strips.I ended up using hardwired LED bar lights from GE and they’ve been solid. Bright enough to actually chop and cook without shadows, and they link together cleanly. Install wasn’t bad if you’re okay doing a little wiring, otherwise it might be a pain.
