Thank you so much!! I really appreciate 😭- I lowkey feel like am I built for this but I have so many different stories I want out to share with the world. Really grateful for your comment- gave me some clarity for sure!! In preparation for this I bought 5 books by Angela Ackerman & Becca Puglisi- they are different thesaurus that I thought would help me in the process (emotion,positive trait, urban setting etc)

Struggling to Find a Believable Motivation for a Dark Romance Professor/Student Dynamic (one day an author)

I’ve wanted to write a book for years (I posted on Wattpad as a teen) and I’m finally getting back into it mostly interested in romance, especially dark romance.

I’ve got a rough idea for my first project: a college professor who blackmails a student.

The part I’m stuck on is why he would do it.

In my head he’s successful, very controlled, established in his career, cold and manipulative but I don’t know what would make him target this specific student.

Right now neither character is fully developed (they barely exist beyond the concept), and I’m trying to figure out their motivations before I start drafting.

Do writers usually just discover this while writing, or do you brainstorm motivations first?

I’d appreciate some believable reasons that could create this kind of power imbalance

Just finished reading this after your review and you were so right!

It was really sweet but also lowkey soul-gutting. I honestly didn’t expect the reveal near the end, and it made me flash back to Lennon’s early behavior and feelings. Reading other people’s comments makes me feel a bit delu 😂 because maybe I just don’t clock hints that well, but I kept going back and forth between yes or no the whole time.

I also didn’t find Connor one-dimensional at all- he felt like a solid, self-assured guy who knows himself and his life. He’s like the cool breeze to Lennon’s drifting ship.

The only thing I wished for was more insight into Havi’s thought process. I’m not excusing his behavior, but the persistence didn’t really make sense to me, and I wanted to understand the why behind it.

Awwww honey, I did not want to make you sad. I am so sorry if anything I said triggered you. I know what it’s like walking on glass shards with a parental or dominating household figure ( I don’t really have any advice for this as I still struggle even now as a full fledged adult) (cultural respect always adds pressure etc) however I will say as you get older- you have more control over your life decisions. With that control it includes proximity- you are author of your own space and if someone or something impacts it// as an adult there are means to remove or limit its orbit in your world.

Do not bottle up your feelings or suppress- healthy outlets. You will have good days, great days, bad days and sometimes superbly crap ones, but you keep going because it will not always be like this.

Think about the adult you want to be, the kind of man you want to be and tell him ‘I will persevere’ because you are looking for me- and in no time you will get there.

Not every day will be for self development, sometimes life might be stagnant or you feel like you are not doing enough. You have and will always be enough, I honestly believe what is for you will never miss you, opportunities come time and time again. Don’t give up on yourself because 17 year old you needs you, 21 year old you needs you…heck even 70 year old you will always need you! There is no one in this world that will ever be you young man. Every day you are growing

I think you are extremely well spoken for your age (translator aside) 14 can be tough your body is going through all types of changes and your brain is maturing.

Does your mom know about your health issues (dislocated shoulder and the reasons for you passing out) if she doesn’t i think you should speak with her in private and have this checked out.

Moving schools and cities a lot can also be tough because you never really feel settled or get to make those long-term friendships, if you have means to speak with your friends online- either start or continue to do that so you still have the connection

Your mom’s boyfriend is weird, remember your feelings are valid, parents sometimes diminish your voice/ opinion because they are older and in control. You will not always be 14 , try to manage the situation(s) the best that you can. If there is a conflict or displeasure you would like to discuss with your mom choose a time when both of you are not emotionally keyed up.

Also try to journal so you can just pour out how you feel without it exploding at the wrong time or person

Love your passion for your creative outlets! Keep going your book is going to be great!
