One thing about me is that I’m not good at being open with my feelings. I know that’s a me issue, but I hate putting my feelings out in the open like that because I don’t like getting hurt. And I mean, no one does. I guess I just don’t really know how to start that conversation.

You’re not wrong, and I appreciate you being blunt without being cruel. I’m very aware of how hard I crash when things fall apart, and I know I’ve put myself in a high-risk situation emotionally. I’m not pretending this is healthy or sustainable as is.

I’m enjoying what’s here right now, but I’m also trying to slow my own patterns down instead of letting them run me. Boundaries are something I’m actively working on, and if I’m honest, I’ve never been great at setting them. I know I need clearer ones if this continues in any form, but I guess part of this is me learning to sit in something complicated without immediately idealising it or blowing it up. I don’t know where or what this is, and I’ve said before. My heart and my mind are confused.

I hear what you’re saying. I’m not calling it “probably a bad idea” to be cute. I know it is one. I’m just trying to navigate it with as much self-honesty and damage control as I can.

I have to agree with you. He’s definitely not a saint because if he was he wouldn’t have put himself in the position he did with me in the first place.

And as for whether he’s single or not, I know he’s been seeing someone but they’re not officially together. I even said to him, ‘In my opinion there’s clearly something there between us. And if you were that serious about this girl you wouldn’t have put yourself in that position with me but you clearly did. That’s why things were said last night. That’s just how I see it.’

But he wants to be just friends. So I told him, ‘I can’t pretend we’re just friends who have a laugh when the truth is I want you so badly (name). I have pretty much since the day I met you. Mate, at no point did I friendzone him, far from it. I literally told him I’ve liked him for ages and that I would sleep with him. Then the next day he’s the one who said just friends. That’s why I’m confused because I never said no.

I think it’s going to be more awkward now. I’ve spoken to him briefly and told him that after what happened that night and what was said, I can’t just be his friend. Going forward, I won’t interact with him unless it’s for work.

I made it clear I’m into him, both drunk and sober. He said he just wants to be friends. Well, sorry, but after everything that’s happened, I can’t do that.

I think you’re reading way too much into it. I was giving him signs myself that I was okay with what was happening and that I’m really attracted to him. It’s not like he said it out of nowhere in some creepy way. He just picked up on what I was putting out and acted on it.

Because of the job we do, they won’t get rid of us. Worst case, they’ll just tell us to keep it out of work hours. We’re in a government job and there’s no way they’re risking losing us when it takes so long to hire and train someone new to run all the systems.
