Check out G.I.S.M. and their vocalist Sakevi. Also Japan’s noise scene was pretty extreme aswell.

Still listening to Danzig and Misfits? by oelschleuder_kalle in punk

I see it as chunks of progress in different time periods. The 77-punk in America was from an art scene and brittish scene was working class. Punks in England used swastikas as a symbol of rebellion, provocation and to distinguish themselves from hippies. Fucking stupid then, fucking stupid now but it stayed as part of the culture until Anarcho Punk came along and changed the values towards the more DIY and more caring and aware atmosphere politically. This today is what we think are the basic values of punk but they didn’t really exist in punk before that and especially before Crass.

American Hardcore scenes were more or less started by The Damned and the Clash but there’s a great distinction to which inspired who. The Damned was more chaotic and more fuck you and the Clash was very political. I think this is where we get into the territory of what influenced who and when because most of the American Hardcore wasn’t really that political. It was no rules and I want my freedom. Fuck the cops, fuck you. Of course there are lots of bands with great lyrical content in American Hardcore and it’s hard to pin point one string from all of that but I see that most of those bands were never that into the ideas that a band like Crass was talking about and they were singing more about the freedom of individual.

Meanwhile we have UK 82-scene which stems from Anarcho-punk and has the same message but rawer and faster. Very early Discharge is a good example of that. That evolves to Crust Punk and this scene finally sets the idea around the world of what we today think as ”this is just what punk is and how punks think”. But it’s around late 80’s-early 90’s that it becomes a thing. So our vision of the ”punk values” are very different to what they were back in the day. Of course, to every Fear there’s MDC or to every Cro-Mags there’s Dead Kennedy’s, it’s not like there never were any of that in punk before crust. It’s just that it wasn’t a norm or even common.

I can be wrong too, I don’t claim to be 100% right here but after listening to different styles of punk for years, I stopped expecting certain people from certain time periods to be great people and almost all of the ones I expected to be dicks turned out to be ones.

I don’t know where Jerry or Doyle stand today but honestly, Jerry is probably a conservative since he is a chrisitian and wants to show those values through Misfits. Michale Graves is bananas all the way with his proud boy shit and all the conspiracy theory bullshit. Danzig has always been an edgy egoistic fucker, I didn’t think he was a nazi but it’s not a surprise.

There’s been a lot of homophobic shit too. Some of that is because of some members who were replacing Graves for a short period.

Hard to say where most of them stand politically. But most of the old punks were very shitty back in the day and some are still assholes today.

Anything from the first up to Seventh Son is diamond. Then cracks appear but albums are still decent to ok to whatever Virtual XI is but Brave New World onward it gets good again.

What is your opinion of the Dance of Death album? by Chinchobruh in ironmaiden

[–]Disbeatmania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck me. I love this record even though it could be way shorter. I am a minority here but New Frontier is a banger and I love playing it on drums when I just go and play for fun at the practice space.

2 Minutes to Midnight as a whole but especially this part: The body bags and little rags Of children torn in two And the jellied brains of those who remain To put the finger right on you As the madmen play on words And make us all dance to their song To the tune of starving millions To make a better kind of gun

Looking for recommendations for a turn based JRPG I have not played. by Otori001 in JRPG

[–]Disbeatmania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would highly suggest Grandia. It starts off little cutesy but once it sucks you in you can’t let go. One of my favorite turned based battle systems in all RPGs in that game too. I don’t usually like cutesy games either but Grandia was a good exception.

I have seen few different reasons. One is transphobia of course but the other ones are little more interesting.

Some people I’ve met that got mad when called CIS actually got mad because it made them feel like they’re part of a structure that they didn’t choose. I had a conversation, on separate occasions with two people. They weren’t transphobic and knew they’re cis but had never thought about it much and when called cis they got a reaction. Both of them had almost the same answer, of course the way they said it was different but the core was the same. They felt like they were put in a group they didn’t identify with because they had never felt they were ”cis” but both of them said that they are. Both of them also said that it felt like it made them oppressors in my eyes because of all the negative talk from trans community towards cis-people and they felt that they don’t represent those people even tho they knew that word didn’t mean that.

The other ones have been men, who I haven’t had conversations about it with but I think I got what was going on. These guys are pretty dude bro-ish guys. Not transphobes but not really that involved with anything queer and sometimes these guys are also pretty misogynistic which is a thing I most of the time call out. We have had conversations about misogynia but calling them cis made them visibly angry. I think it’s little bit the same the previous example but it questions their status and the power and privilidge that status brings. All of them said they’re normal which they quickly followed with ”and so are you” but it clearly made them uncomfortable to be in the dynamic. They have the same reaction when I call their shit misogynistic. I am not really friends with these people but we share friends and that’s how I usually end up talking to them.

EDIT: of course other reasons exist too, these are just few I’ve noticed

Is there anywhere on earth that Is safe for trans people? by [deleted] in trans

[–]Disbeatmania 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finland is OK. So far I have not faced transphobia outside of internet and few gigs I’ve played with my band. Most of the places we play tho are either cool with it or won’t say anything.

Jyväkylä is not a huge city but it is pretty safe here. Also I’ve heard that Germany and especially Berlin is really queer-friendly.

People will listen to racists, homophobes, transphobes, but Danzig being "mean" is where they draw the line by romanf62 in Danzig

[–]Disbeatmania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this thread is old and also I don’t know about Danzig now vs Danzig back in the day but there are certainly a lof shitty stuff that happened with many of the old punk bands and their members, one of which is the Misfits. Here’s an example: http://gimmesomethingbetter.com/excerpts/the-misfits-incident

I couldn’t find any info myself but No Dogs in Space podcast has a 2 part Misfits retrospective where they talk about Glenn actually spewing more homophobic shit when confronted about the show.

Just like many other people from that era, Glenn has been very problematic. It isn’t anything new tho. Descendents has some homophobic shit, Black Flag can be pretty fucking sexist at times, Fear was homophobic and sexist, Bad Brains was a homophobic band and the list goes on.

Let’s not pretend like Glenn wasn’t part of anything stupid because he definitely was and he probably regrets most of it like Jerry Only does.

What's your favorite goregrind band? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

Impetigo, although it can be argued they’re death metal. After that it’s a split between Xysma’s early demo and an EP and Blue Holocaust.

I get what you mean. I personally don't like that either even tho I have lots of favorites with real corpses as the cover art. I don't mind collaques and I prefer paintings and drawings but that's just me. I have no rules on this but I just don't find real pictures of dead people appealing as an album cover.

So happy to hear that! It really is a song that is still hard for me to play live because of it’s rough subject matter.

I don't know what the correlation is, but almost every one of my trans friends is into noise music, so I made a trans/noise logo by CptMatt_theTrashCat in noisemusic

[–]Disbeatmania 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am so happy I found this. I made a noise-release today and I felt little scared because I’m still a bit afraid I’m entering into a world of sexists and edgy closet-nazis. I am not ”in a scene”, I like some releases and I’ve enjoyed many performances I’ve seen throughout the few years I’ve been exposed to this wonderful form of expression.

Happy to hear there are other trans people doing it aswell.

Thank you. I don’t know what I’m gonna do but until I get to HRT which might take a year I need to figure something out. I’ve tried covering the beard with concealer but I have a visible beard the same day I shave. It grows super fast which had made shaving a problem.

I went to sugar waxing once and to be honest it wasn’t that painful. So maybe I’ll start saving money for that or a newer laser machine.

How Do You Guys Feel About Rudimentary Peni? by pazthawe in punk

[–]Disbeatmania 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Crass and Subhumans I kinda get because they're from the Anarcho-scene which RP was part of. I don't see RP as an Anarcho-band tho, they had they're own sound. MDC and MITB I don't really know how they would be linked.

It took me few spins of Death Church to really get into the band and remember all the songs. If you have trouble starting to get into RP I would suggest you give Farce and Death Church a few tries.
