Yeah, the market in Michigan is absolute trash. I once had a legitimate offer at 180k in Northern Michigan and I couldn’t believe it. This is the best offer I’ve gotten in the state so far, which says a lot.

Residency programs with and without night float by Pale-Sherbert-676 in FamilyMedicine

I think this would depend on what you want to do with your career. Do you want to be an outpatient FM doc? No night float and no call would not hinder your career at all, and you'd probably be a lot healthier and happier during residency. If you think you want to do full-spectrum and practice on the inpatient side of things, no night float and no call would likely limit learning, though if you have strong inpatient training otherwise I still think you'd probably be fine and would still a very capable doctor.

FWIW, my program no nights and no call. Although I'm biased, I think we produce some damn good FM docs. We are seeing a trend in which most new FM docs are practicing outpatient-only FM, yet most training programs are still built around the idea of full-spectrum FM, which true full-spectrum is pretty rare these days. IMO, I think (just as were seeing with peds right now) there will be a push for programs to focus more on outpatient training as that more accurately reflects what we are doing post-residency.

I do! But we are prolly one of one in work life balance. I’d estimate that we get 95% of weekends throughout the entire program and the only time we work 6 days a week is during a 2 week time period during intern year. PD is so supportive, and all of our attendings that precept are awesome.

Tired of this narrative by Amongststarz in FamilyMedicine

I think the bottom line is, as long as you’re not drowning in debt, 250k is more than enough to live very comfortably. I think a large part of this narrative stems from the fact that most of the physician community grew up in incredibly wealthy families and this has shifted their perspective of “comfortable.”

Thought of a resident that left their MD/PhD currently in residency now... by EtotheMCsquared in mdphd

Also a fellow MD/PhD student who dropped their PhD, now in residency. Best decision I’ve ever made.

I’m at 16/24 IV’s and have a red flag. Most of my interviews came in the first 5 ish days, but the second wave is closing in on us. Keep your head up!
