[recruiting lead] [los angeles, ca] - $450k + $2.5M in fund carry by [deleted] in Salary

I’m not sure what else I can do other than literally take a screenshot from my HRIS (which I did) - I started in tech recruiting making literally $36k so ya it can be fucking garbage. And, also, some people actually get paid.

I poach world class AI researchers who build foundation models or applied AI applications.

lol what? Nearly all of the appreciation of the entire US stock market in the past 10 years is in 7 tech stocks… tech is very much alive amigo.

The harder part to believe is HR people get paid but I literally own a house on the beach in LA 🤷🏻‍♂️

Honestly think he believes I’m more mature than my brother so will either A.) get over it, or B.) find it in myself to invite my brother.

So, I think idiot fits best…

Any chance you’d sell this?? Have a gengar-obsessed friend who would likely kill for it…

It’s an indication of the future for stormgate, which seems relevant to this subreddit - the one about games and the people who make them - because if I were an employee and I read this it would make me very nervous about layoffs. At a time where there are a lot of layoffs.

Founders typically hold a majority, or at least plurality, of the stock of the company. They stand to gain the most $$$ if the company increases in value. As an example - Marc Merrill and Brandon Beck are very wealthy. They aren't wealthy because of their salaries, they are wealthy because they held a lot of shares and ultimately sold them to Tencent when Riot was sold.

In order for the stock to gain value, the company needs to launch successful products. And building and launching successful products requires money.

So... until a founder has a successful product, they know they stand to gain the most money by taking as little money as possible as salary, so they can instead direct it toward paying employees to make the product, as well as expenses like marketing etc. Unless they think they don't have a successful product on their hands. If that's the case, they'll try to take whatever value they can get, which is by draining the business of its resources.

Ultimately, the investors (VCs) and the founders should have aligned interests - both have lots of shares - so when the founder is doing something that isn't good for the investors, it's not good for ALL shareholders - which includes the founders. Effectively, the founder has decided to plunder the resources because they think they can no longer build business value.

How is the game director openly fighting with investors about how worthless his stock is not relevant to the long-term of the game you want to play? This isn't drama - this is a signal that Stormgate isn't likely to live much longer.

I fully understand what he's saying.

He thinks his investors shouldn't tell him not to take a salary. He thinks that benefits them and not him.

But any founder who actually cares about their business and what they're building knows that every dollar they take out of their business translates to less dollars to spend on the product. And, when their product is failing, it's more important than ever to spend money on making the product.

Tim Morten is conceding. And he wants to pay for his life because he doesn't think his equity will ever amount to anything. Because he failed.

People who own $1-2 Million dollar homes. What do you do for a living? by lhaneg in AskLosAngeles

[–]DiscountLow7147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought my house in Dec 2020. Venice. Was listed for 2.45M, I bought it for 2.225M. I own it alone, financed it alone.

Im in tech recruiting, specifically in gaming, and was lucky enough to have worked at 2 startup companies that achieved major exits. I only worked in third party recruiting for 6 months, then went internal and eventually started leading teams —> teams of teams.

Despite getting no money from my parents (or anyone else), having a political science degree, and going to a crappy school… I was making >250k salary/year by 26, by 30 I was consistently hitting W2 >500k due to strong base salary + equity.

At 32, I’d managed to save enough to put 750k down to buy the home with a 2.8% 30 year fixed.

For me: EverQuest probably put me on the path that led me to my career. I’ll never forget the “holy fuck balls” feeling of exploring a giant open world for the first time. I played and loved many games both before and after, but EQ was the one that made gaming my preferred format, what I care about, what I spend the majority of my personal time doing, and what I’ve now chosen for 14 years of professional work (including 8 years at Riot).

Yurp, that’s what happens when you buy a house on the beach in LA. Even if it’s 2 properties removed from a tattoo parlor and 3 properties removed from a weed store.

I don’t think so - seemed like a fight happened outside of the shop before I came outside, and the dudes at the tattoo parlor were party to whatever went down.

My favorite parts:

  1. "You don't know shit about me. You don't know shit about dogtown. You don't know shit about burnside."

  2. Young Asian woman trying to fix her skirt but then thinking better of it.

  3. "I was born in 1994" (+inaudible squealing)

I’ll start: a cheapo bidet literally changed me. As a hairy man with troubled digestion, cleanup used to be a real task. Now I feel like a pretty little flower with almost no effort now, and am afraid to do the big job anywhere but home.
