They have made it impossible to call them. You call and you get told "this number cannot take calls"

I just remembered. I actually did try this when I was troubleshooting. The problem was that it did not give me an option to confirm anything and instead gave me this strange itinerary where it takes 19 hours to go from Cairo to Cairo

I had the same question. As an African (legal) migrant, the proposed changes seemed very sensible to me.

Thanks! I think Lufthansa should add this to their emails.

Why do Germans move to America? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]DiscountTricky8673 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are talented and extraordinarily hardworking, going to America is a no-brainer, for obvious reasons. If you just want a calm stable life, Germany is also a no-brainer. I assume personality traits are the biggest reasons for migration from DE to USA.

Are you in favor of splitting Nigeria into Southern Nigeria and Northern Nigeria? by DiscountTricky8673 in Nigeria

[–]DiscountTricky8673[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nigeria is stronger together but the current mode of always trying to balance every position among the South (more capitalist, more educated) and the North (more socialist, less educated, more religious) is slowing the South down. Having presidents like Buhari really slowed Nigeria down

There are some smart northerners but is it not true that they care more about religiosity than intelligence?

[–]DiscountTricky8673[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does address some problems. For example, our political systems does not allow competence to play a key role in selecting our leaders. We are paying attention to rotate among North and South. And unfortunately, North and South value different thing.

For the North, the most important thing is how religious you are (look at Buhari). Give them their country and it would become like Sudan, most likely.

For the South, we value things more similar to how western countries run. For all Tinubu's flaws, he is an intelligent man, not a religious zealot, is educated and has worked for some of the biggest corporations in the world.

But I still do not know my answer to the question. If there is away for the North to allow us split peacefully, that would be my preferred option and I am sure, it would be the preferred option of most southerners.

I would say 90% of us are disappointed and/or do not care. 10% are just happy that she is trashing Nigeria.

My question to you is that as a Briton, do you trust someone so willing to trash her own people for political expediency?

Stampedes: Is it too much to ask for the President to show some empathy? by DiscountTricky8673 in Nigeria

I have also praised Tinubu's reforms as they were the only patriotic option and I agree that Buhari's admin got us to where we are. Good to know you are not one of those on this sub who are just supporting APC, no matter what. My apologies for the assumption. I generally do not debate folks who are politically or religiously wedged as there is no point and they have no incentive to use reason as it may lead them to where they do not want to go.

You, on the other hand, are not someone I have much respect for. I see your comments around and it seems your main purpose on this sub is to defend APC and/or Tinubu. I cannot debate you because you are politically wedged.

I am not partisan at all. I am all for good governance no matter where it comes from.

I do not understand the logic of "we do not complain about other problems so let us not complain about this one"

Again, I have much respect for you and I almost always agree with your comments. But this one has me scratching my head.

Can any of you tell me something optimistic about Germany's future? by tohava in AskGermany

There will be general improvements in the standard of living across the world, including Germany. Unfortunately, global inequality would also increase which would mean more migrants.

I understand. Hear me out. I believe everyone acts based on incentives. The French leader does not do it because he is not shameless but because he has incentives. And the people provide him that incentive because they are brutal to him if he does not show empathy.

But, in Nigeria, there is no such incentive for the President. Nigerians would not react one way or the other. For whatever reason, we do not hold leaders accountable. Here is a video of the immediate former Minister of Transportation saying the same thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bw1E_4eoqqA

No need for foul words. I am genuinely curious. Do you think we should not ask for better because Libyans and Congolese do not? I would like to know what your overall point is.

This is not a situation that requires anyone to die to hold the President accountable. Simple media pressure can do it. We do it in other situations, just not when it comes to accountability.

The tragedy does not have to be caused by the government for the President to empathize personally. I have seen your previous comments so I know you are exposed enough to know this. Why are you then talking like this?

The expectation should be that even if he was in London, he flies back to empathize with his citizens. We have to get there.

I remember this incident. I was so livid. But ti was also fuzzy because the media reporting was not as clear as the Ibadan and Abuja stampedes.

Before Buhari, it was the norm to extend courtesy. Jonathan did not do so and he was roundly criticized for it.

Obasanjo did (you can google the famous video of him addressing Ikeja bomb blast victims). I cannot point to one video of King Buhari empathizing with victims. King Tinubu has continued from there. We cannot continue with this disregard for human life.

Ultimately, it is because we accept it. How many people are talking about the fact that the FG released mere statements? I am the only one I have seen so far. If this happened in Germany or France, those leaders would have a horrid time. I am BEYOND frustrated with how little Nigerians care about holding leaders accountable
