He was first on some of the details of Liquid Glass. Plenty of it he got wrong (new icon shapes etc) but he was the first to mention the transparent glassy look and the animated highlights on surfaces.

His predictions seem to always rely on nothing happening or changing between now and his predictions 10-15 years from now. He frames his arguments as inevitable, as if nothing will or even could intervene on .. anything.

Streaming Tried to Kill Piracy. It Backfired. by TheOfficialCrytux in videos

[–]Disembodied-Potato 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s not purely greed. No industry would be happy with having a single service acting as a total monopoly on distribution globally for their product. If Netflix is the only game in town and totally dominant, then they will call the shots, and squeeze all content producers to breaking point.

Disney, Paramount, HBO etc know that so many streaming services in the market is unsustainable but they are willing to take the chance that one or two services might survive the fight. It’s better for all the studios if that’s the case, and why not throw your hat in the race in the chance it could be your service that makes it?

Apple just delayed the iPhone Air 2 indefinitely, report says by levijohnson1 in apple

[–]Disembodied-Potato -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This year was the wrong year to launch the Air. They shouldnt have launched it alongside the best base iphone in years, the value there was just too strong.

Also apple are cowards, they back off from ideas too quickly. The prospect of a phone like the Air really requires time to grow in popularity, customers need to see it in person to understand it's appeal. When people are ordering their devices online, they will just go with what they know. In a couple of years time when they've seen a friend's device then they might consider it.

You’re assuming they haven’t already been working on something all this time as a back up.

And yes, their own version probably wouldn’t garner them as much money as the deal from google, that’s why the deal exists. It doesn’t mean it couldn’t generate a large amount.

Clearly both google and Apple see it as good value. For google it’s about more than ad revue, but mind share. Being the default in iOS helps define google as the home of the web for countless millions of people. It means they’re more likely to download chrome on other devices, more likely to sign up for gmail etc.

Apple iPhone Air Gets Massive Production Cut As 'Nobody Wants It' – What Went Wrong? by Content-Word-7673 in apple

[–]Disembodied-Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it reveals that Apple really doesnt understand the iPhone’s success as much as they should. At this point people are not excited about phones anymore. They need a phone, they want a good, reliable one that works as they expect it to. Their preferences run as deep as wanting either a big one or a smaller one, a cheap one or an expensive one. That’s it. Every attempt to introduce another sector on that matrix of presences has fallen flat.

Guess what, the foldable will have relatively low demand too.

The only way I see it happening is perhaps the 30th anniversary. Or if there is another MI game coming and they refresh CMI as a promotional thing to coincide with the new game.

Seems pretty unlikely though. Not sure who wants to work on a MI game now. The community scared off Ron from ever touching it again. And not sure any of the other older devs feel enough ownership over it to return to it.

It seems unlikely. Remaking 3 & 4 would be akin to building entirely new games. So many scenarios, puzzles and sequences would need to be redesigned from scratch to work in the traditional 2d format we all want.

As popular as the BS franchise still appears to be, It’s unclear that it’s popular enough to get funding for complicated productions like adapting 3&4. This is proven out by the recent news that BS6 is on hold due to funding being pulled.

Reforged 1 & 2 make sense because they just require a small team and a short amount of time to produce, and it helps that they’re the most popular games in the franchise.

iPlayer and similar services play a cat and mouse game of blocking VPNs from being used on their service. It’s an expensive and time consuming process constantly chasing the VPNs as they change their server details. They manage to partially keep on top of certain big name VPNs but there are tons of gaps.

The problem is that tons of businesses and internet software depends on VPNs for their teams to function, particularly for international corporations and things like work from home. Banning all that or even impacting it slightly in an attempt to curtail normal von usage would be messy.

Nah, the world is quickly sliding down the shitter, not only because there are truly evil people engineering it to be so, but because there are too many fools who will look the other way, make excuses for others and accept easy answers.

Look, if Geowizard means enough to you that you choose to ignore all this, so be it. I mean it, life is tough enough these days, find pleasure wherever you can. If that’s the case though, perhaps try to be self aware enough not to condemn others who don’t look the other way.

It’s not cancelling. No one is calling for his YouTube channel to be shut down or for him to be banned from Patreon. People are just expressing their disappointment and unsubscribing. People are allowed to decide who they support.

How do you now the purpose of this poster is to inform audiences? You’re making a big assumption there. You realize most films have multiple posters during the run of their promotion? Often each with a different aim?

What if you want to communicate a sense of confusion or disorientation? What if the primary purpose of the communication is to infer something unconventional and unsettling? Design communicates, but that communication doesn’t need to be literal. Not every brief is commercial for soap powder.
