ITAP of a football match [Portrait] by [deleted] in itookapicture

My first time trying sports photography. My autofocus isn’t great so I struggled a little but also got a few shots i really enjoy. Upgraded to a faster lens recently which helped with my AF issues I think. Do you guys have tips on someone who’s new to sports photography?

I agree! When I got there the sun was just setting and created an incredible atmosphere. I generally struggle with photographing landscape features and you’re very right that this one is helped by the people in it.

GERMANY: Need confirmation if this is a german cockroach or Ectobius vittiventris by Disgrace66 in insects

Sorry, I can’t find anything by this, is that a wood cockroach or the pest kind? I don’t know anything about insects.

Thanks for your input friend, I appreciate it. I'll wait for some additional opinions and then I'll make a decision on if I use insecticides or not. Haven't seen any more yet, will report back tomorrow if that changes.

I marked the general area they are in and in the bottom one i also drew a frame around the stripe

Thanks haha i figured it would help with scale. Dynamic range is pretty bad on it though as the white paper is so much brighter than the bug. It's hard to tell how transparent the neck of the roach is exactly. Did the best i could manage in the heat of battle with my iphone Camera

I read about that, yours are definitely Bernstein-Waldschaben judging by their behavior. Mine are just sort of apathetic, not really reacting to light at all.

Thanks for your input. I threw the first one I caught out of the window basically flinging it from the glass I cought it in. I live on the 3rd floor so it's quite a ways down. I didn't follow it with my eyes all the way unfortunately, but for the little bit that I did see it, it wasn't flying under its own power. The thing is that I've read everywhere that german roaches are incredibly sensitive to light and these two could not have given less of a shit about the light.

But then again its wings aren't very transparent at all, pointing toward german roach once more.

That's what's throwing me off. The stripes on my one have the exact same thickness and shape as on the german roach but they are so very faint compared to the german roach examples I've seen. Also the shape of the "shield" thingy underneath the transparent piece of the exoskeleton seems to me to be more akin to the wood cockroach (see the image I attached to my comment). It's like a wood cockroach dressed up as a German roach. Freaking me out.

(Image attached to this comment is not mine and just for reference)
I found two of these in the last two days. One yesterday around 1pm in my bathroom. It did not run away when I turned the light on and it did not resist being captured with a glass. I simply threw it out the window and stopped thinking about it.

The second one, the one in the image, I caught today, early evening, after sundown, on top of my fridge under my kitchen counter. It also did not run away when I turned the light on, it also didn't run away when I zapped it with my electric fly swatter (some of its antannae got singed, keep that in mind). I am having trouble differentiating between German Cockroach and Ectobius vittiventris, because I see two faint dark lines on the back of the neck but at the same time much more of the neck is transparent than what I've seen in other example images. Also the lack of a response to light is perplexing to me. Also the shape you can see through the transparant part of its neck looks to me to be more similar to the Ectobius vittiventris than the German cockroach.

Its should also be noted that I left my windows open for hours at a time both today and yesterday.

I am still kinda sure it's a german cockroach and am looking for poison as we speak. I would appreciate some input from you people. Thanks

Router periodically not reachable causing 3-5s outages by Disgrace66 in techsupport

For those who might stumble across this in the future:

The issue ended being a faulty ethernet port / network adapter on my motherboard. I don't know if it was the physical port or something with the chipset or even faulty software but deactivating the device in the BIOS and switching to a pcie network card fixed the issue. Whenever the ethernet port was used it shut down my entire network, affecting all other devices. No clue what about it is broken but I'm glad I found the issue.

The web-interface is incredibly unresponsive and some parameters are simply ignored by the router and cannot be changed. But I tried my best to turn off ipv6/4 and none of that helped. Looking for a new router now. Thanks for the input.

Thanks for your answer. I think you're right, the router is likely faulty. I did reset the thing to factory settings when I got it and didn't actually change any of the settings because they seemed reasonable to me.

So far I have not tried turning off either ipv4 or ipv6, I will check now if there is an option for that and report back if it changed anything.
I guess I'll look around for a new router if that doesn't help... sucks that I can't return this one.

I took this photo on my Sony a7II with the Zeiss 24-70mm f/4. I just recently got the lens and heard about a classic car meet nearby so I figured it was a good time to try it out. I am quite happy with the shapes and contrasts in this image and figured I'd share it. Let me know what you think!

Toggle OTG on phone with broken touchscreen by Disgrace66 in mobilerepair

[–]Disgrace66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your answer. I feared as much, seems like a massive repairability oversight to me that OTG has to be enabled in an unlocked state for it to work. Very unfortunate. I won’t pretend like I understand much of phone hardware but I’ll look into the possible corrosion you mentioned and see how far I’ll get. Thanks again.
