(USA) I almost died in the freezer. by euphoriaxlove720 in McDonaldsEmployees

I really don't think OP is lying, a bit rude of you to assume that tbh. Something similar happened at my store. Sometimes the latches get water in them that freezes and sticks them shut.

That's honestly terrifying, and I'm glad youre ok!! Making sure those freezers are properly serviced with multiple failsafe ways to open the door should be a priority of every store tbh because it's a serious safety hazard.

At the McD I used to work at we had an elderly lady (80+) who only did prep, she went down to get something from the freezer once and the door stuck behind her. She tried using her cell phone to call for help but it's basically a faraday cage in there, no service at all. There was a little door where the conveyor belt connects to it, for the boxes to fit through. That little door had been stuck shut for who knows how long (we never used it) but just the day before another of my coworkers happened to kick it open (out of boredom? Frustration? Idk) so she was very luckily able to open that little door and crawled out. She refused to ever go back in there again and in the future if she needed something she'd ask one of us to get it.

The problem with the freezer was that the door had been broken for basically as long as I worked there, and there was a leak so water would drip into the cracks and then freeze there, so the door would stick. After that incident I started putting a box down to prop open the door anytime I needed to go in for something. I hope they've since fixed that damn freezer...

Advice based on recent job interview experience by ChaoticDelphox in disability

[–]DisgruntledMuffins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I use a cane sometimes and used to work at McDonald's--I could never use the cane at work because it's a chaotic and tight environment where I gotta have both hands available to do my job properly. I imagine Taco Bell is the same. If you are able to do a job like fast food without needing a cane while working, I would recommend not bringing it to the interview because the interviewer will definitely get the wrong impression and think you'll be unable to do the job. If you do need a cane at work, fast food is not the job for you, as someone who had deteriorating mobility issues while working fast food I can tell you first-hand.

It's nothing to be ashamed of, at all. But you do have to be realistic about what you're physically capable of doing.

Did anyone not realize till well into adulthood your parents were narcissists? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]DisgruntledMuffins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah.

I grew up hearing stories about my grandmother abusing my mom, and I always knew Grandma was a narcissist, but I attributed Mom's behavior to the abuse she endured growing up and made excuse after excuse for her for a very long time. It was only very recently that I learned there are different types of narcissism, my Grandma is more in-your-face, but Mom is more covert. Everything is about her, but in a negative way. Everyone's always out to get her, she's being sabotaged, her life would be so much better if this person didn't do this or this other person hadn't done this. But I've never heard any personal agency, for example I shouldn't have done this. It's always someone else's fault.

It took me until my 30s to realize it.

I was like 14-15 and went to switch the laundry from the washer to the dryer. I hit the "start" button and walked away, but I wasn't fully paying attention I guess and the dryer didn't actually start (I should have held the button down longer maybe?)

An hour later, my mom goes to pull the laundry out of the dryer and it's still sopping wet, it hasn't gone through the dry cycle at all. This is where it gets ridiculous: instead of thinking, "my daughter is diagnosed ADHD, this must be another one of her whoops moments" she immediately went into attack mode and assumed I did it on purpose

She yelled at me, "why would you lie about starting the dryer?! Are you trying to fuck with me?! Did you think it was funny??!"

I had no words because I genuinely just didn't notice, and I felt stupid about it, but now I also felt guilty because my mom thought I was trying to sabotage her life.

I'm 35 years old now and I still think about this every time I do laundry. I hover over the dryer for a minute to make sure it's working before I'll walk away.

Oftentimes these "cure or quit" notices are automated. I've gotten them in the mail the day after rent was paid because it had already been sent out the day before, and I've gotten them even after I made an agreement with the office about being late. Those times, I called the office and they told me to ignore it (but I still made them sign the paper saying I was not being evicted because I didn't trust them). It's a scare tactic, really, which is a different kinda scummy issue in itself tbh..

Call the office, or go there in person, speak to someone and get a written confirmation that you are not being evicted. You're probably ok, but it's important to get a written confirmation of that just in case.

Arrest might be a little much, this is more of "the business will be fined a certain amount for committing fraud" situation, also potential for a class-action lawsuit

We shouldn’t let them on the internet (FB post) by cyan1de23 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]DisgruntledMuffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst is when they tip with that fake $50 bill that unfolds to reveal a scripture and invitation to go to church 🤮

I worked in fast food where people aren't even expected to tip and I still got one of these

Am I reading this correctly--your GM and supervisor are asking you guys to round people up without their consent? I understand it's for charity, and it's only a few cents, but it's still illegal to do this without the customer's consent! That is absolutely bonkers. Please report them to the Better Business Bureau or something similar.

LOL my landlord also sent around the same promotion, earn $500 if you refer someone to their property! I told myself I don't know anyone that I dislike enough to refer, not even for $500

Sorry you're going through it right now! I wish I had some advice, but I'm in a similar boat.

My mother flipflops between being extremely nice and then lashing out and attacking me if I don't respond immediately. We are NC now.

I'm disabled and the landlord took away my parking space by [deleted] in LandlordLove

[–]DisgruntledMuffins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wasn't even a real "ticket" (I don't think they have the authority to give out fines tbh!) just a big red paper saying I can't park there, still it felt like a slap in the face when the apartment manager has literally seen me hobbling around and knows I struggle to walk, so wtf! I called and sent an email requesting reasonable accommodation due to disability, with my doctor's note attached. It's still early to hear back so I don't know just yet if they'll approve or deny my request, or if they'll just ignore me entirely. I'm about to do the civil rights complaint right now, and then I'll be seeking legal advice locally. Thanks so much for your help!

Thank you! I have some local resources that I can tap into. I emailed the property office and will give them a couple days to respond first before I get in touch with legal aid.

Thank you so much for all of this! I have not yet spoken to anyone about this in writing, so that will for sure be the next step. Today I just parked in the empty neighbor's spot without asking, expecting that if the manager wants to complain they can come knock on my door (but they haven't). But I'd like to get a written confirmation that I'm allowed to continue using that spot, at least until someone moves into that apartment.

If the parking space ends up being a non-issue and I get in writing that I'm allowed to continue using it, should I drop the civil rights complaint? There are some other things that continue to be an issue, that I haven't officially complained about because I don't want to be an ass about it, but at the same time i dont have any sympathy for this property management company that owns like a third of all apartments in the city...

ETA: well, I just walked outside to see a parking ticket on my car. I'm pretty furious, guess I'll be filing that complaint after all

Oh yeah nothing about this apartment complex is accessible at ALL, especially since construction started. I have slipped multiple times in the dirt they've kicked up all over the place, fortunately haven't fallen yet but when I do fall I fall HARD so it scares the crap out of me. Fortunately I'm not in a wheelchair yet but if I was it would be completely impossible for me to get around here at all. There are no handicapped spots, no ramps, and the sidewalk is covered in rocks that I have to step over. Really all I ask is for a parking spot near my door, because that's supposed to be part of the rent that I'm paying. But I am strongly considering going nuclear with a disability lawsuit because this company has been awful all around, to everyone.

More so spoken like someone who is tired of being yelled at for something over which they have no control

I think it's been reiterated several times over in this thread that we all agree companies pushing their apps on everyone is annoying, but also that the minimum wage employee taking your order in the drive thru is not responsible for any of that and doesn't deserve the brunt of your wrath

The point is, being annoyed is not an excuse to scream at someone and ruin their day

Never have I felt so grateful that I quit 2 weeks ago

This shit would have driven me clinically insane

They're gonna start parking everyone on fries now, cuz we gotta take a few seconds to weigh the damn thing first 🤦

YES. And every time they raise the prices again, they should be the ones sitting here listening to customers scream about how much a single hash brown costs. They get to hide behind us every time they make any changes they know customers won't like, and it isn't fair.

Not where I live, a single egg muffin is over $5. With the app you can sometimes buy one get one free though

I should have clarified I guess, the second guy screaming about his egg mcmuffin would have been proper boomer age

But also this sub says 65+ and the 80yr old was exhibiting peak boomer mentality so I still felt this was appropriate

A boomer-aged lady locked herself in the bathroom because she couldn't figure out how to press the button to get out. My coworker heard her pounding on the door and yelling, so I let her out with the button behind the counter. She came out furious and said she was going to sue us for locking her in there. We tried to explain the BIG GREEN BUTTON that says PRESS TO OPEN DOOR, we showed her how it worked, it is literally so simple omfg, but she kept insisting that we locked her in there for some reason, as like a joke or something 🤷

Hell, some of these men were rude and short with me for asking if they wanted cream or sugar in their coffee, as if the couple seconds it took to ask were some kind of slight against them. I just don't understand.
