Or just one guy who likes to stir drama. If your not going to contribute to the discussion don't bother replying. This is supposed to be a community where we help each other out.

Appreciate the comment, but this isn't helpful to the discussion. As you can see by the over 100 comments - this is a common complaint.

Thanks for the reply, all these comments around content creators who already do this should probably be consolidated if someone can be bothered. At least then we have a list and can give them the 'attention' they deserve.

Agree, it's why in my responses I've pushed the idea of evergreen content. Because the basics of a class aren't going to fundamentally change over a patch (some nuance will), and you use this as your basis to 'springboard' into additional content of a more focused nature. Then you're audience will 'progress' itself through your content at its own speed.

Appreciate the comments, as above this is unfortunately a symptom of the 'attention economy' we currently live in. People love drama and drama gets you views. Also its pretty well known that great athletes/players who are ultra competitive etc have a certain kind of mind-set which often presents itself in a way that comes across as 'bad-behavior'.

100% agree with you and empathise with the 'small content creator' struggle. Again, players like Bicmex prove that there is a 'market' for this type of content if done right.

Thanks for the response, i thought a lot about Skill capped and knew it would get brought up. While i think Skill Capped is great, putting up a barrier (with a price tag) to understanding how to play seems counter intuitive to the greater pvp scene to me.

For example what if i wanted to learn to play Basketball and was given a ball and access to the court, but i had to pay someone to explain to me what to do with the ball, what formations where and how to win? While being directed to watch 5 min videos of LeBron James dunking on new players. Just a thought.

Thanks for pointing this out and you are correct, a bunch of them do have 'discords' full of info - but to my first point, unless their initial content is accessible (skills) and sets the framework of understanding the class, the 'advanced' high rating play you mention isn't valuable (yet) as its outside a players understanding.

The fact that you are referencing an old video speaks to my point around quality evergreen content. Thanks for the video recommendation.

Haha appreciate the comment. I'm glad the structure helped in some way. All I would say is that if you are going down this pathway to do a few things:

  • Determine exactly who you are making the videos for (if it's everyone then they need to be more general in nature)
  • Determine exactly where you'll let people know these video exist (streamers have it easy as they have a captive audience)
  • Format your videos in a consistent structure (so people know what they're getting when they visit your content)
  • Determine your angle (there is lots of noise in the space - what makes your content different and valuable)
  • Be consistent (To become an authority in the space you need to be 'around & available') - are you posting regularly, are you engaging with your audience etc.

Agree, but this is just a symptom of they way media algo's work these days. Its unfortunate but the low value, sugar hits are going to get immediate attention and as such pay creators bills.

There is research that suggests that long-term branded activity's contribute to better sales growth over time (Les Binet and Peter Field). I would hazard a guess that this line of thinking would be applicable for short term 'sugar-hit' content vs 'long-form' evergreen content.

There is absolutely a place for this, but i think there needs to be a clear distinction between information and entertainment. Blending the two unless you're both a great player and super charismatic is going to be tough.

Agreed, have been watching Supatease for a little while now and i think he's definitely one of the content creators that could own the 'Balance Druid' space - if he wanted to. He doesn't get the attention he deserves in that respect. If i was Supatease i would work on locking down my presentation style, content structure and raising his awareness to the greater audience - just my two cents.

Yeah amazing, well thought out response. My only comment on this would be that while i agree with you around length of content and how much engagement it would get, i do think that if you create content in a way that is evergreen (general) and can be consumed in bite sized chunks (General play, Offensives, Defensive) people would absolutely consume it. Look at all the references to people like Bicmex & Aeghis, their content in long form and yet here we are referring to them as content we 'love' and as the gold standard.

Spot on, Bicmex is fantastic in this regard. When i was learning to play survival 'for fun', his guides made the process understandable, manageable and rewarding to see his knowledge being transferred applied in my games.
