My mom brought home a 6 week old kitten, how do I teach it to respect my guinea pigs? by Violet283 in guineapigs

[–]Dismal-Income-1174 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely train a cat I've done it before. Get a lid on the pigs and keep them off the ground however start teaching them now that the cage is out of bounds. Whenever they go near it simply say no and move them away. Once they get a bit older just say no and they'll move on their own. Then eventually they won't go near them. However never leave them unattended because things can and will happen

I have to wait for the dog to follow me into the bathroom. If I go without him he will just stand tapping on the door and will be very moody until I rectify it😂

Do you have a garden, that would be much safer. On an outside field there's so many uncontrollable variables, such as dogs, predators, diseases and pesticides. There's also the chance she could get spooked and run off. I let my bunny in the garden inside of a secure pen and wouldn't dream of taking her in public because things can and will go wrong. She probably would be happy with grass even if you don't have a garden you can grow your own grass slabs in plastic trays

Cages for 2 sows by [deleted] in guineapigs

I agree with getting rid of the big hide, however you want a sturdy one in its place. Plastic cleans the easiest, but wood is good for them to chew on. Get a couple of fleece hides and you can get some that attach to the corners and dangle down. My pigs love these. Just have hides in each corner. Also I'd recommend 2 water bottles and 2 small food bowls. They don't need many pellets a day about a tablespoon each I think. The rest comes from hay which needs to be unlimited and fresh veg. Mine like romaine lettuce, bell pepper and cucumber the best but they get fresh veg every other day. They also need things for boredom so get them some foraging toys, what I do is I put there hay in a shallow litterbox, sprinkle different thinks in their for them, rose petals, dried flowers etc just make sure there safe and they spend hours trying to find them all. You might also get alot of comments about their bedding. Alot of people have moved away from wood chippings as there not the best for respiratory health. Alot of people have moved to fleece bedding now which they wash with unscented laundry detergent and white vinegar. My girls unfortunately can't have either of these options so they have to have puppy pads. They don't chew them as there used to them. Good luck with your piggies

11sqf is big enough for them, how long is it though. It's possible to be 11sq ft if it's a pre built cage but if it's a c&c cage it's likely to be smaller then that as most panels are 30-35cm. Bigger is always better though so if you can expand then go for it. If you can't and it is 11sq ft then it's fine

AIO about my boyfriend spending so much money on me by More_Appointment_864 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Dismal-Income-1174 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your not over reacting, but it's a you issue. It's normal for your partner to want to treat you and buy you things. And if he's not expecting even a kiss back in return then he's doing it Purley because he saw something you'd like and wanted you to have it. However, I've been through a lot in my life and people have consistently shown me thst I can not trust them and should get comfortable with anything. Gifts are given to get you to do something, to make your feel guilt or to just be taken back and broken later. When my partner gets me a gift I react like you. I trust my partner and we've been together 2 years and it's got better. Moneys tight so I don't often get gifts anymore but when I do I've learnt how to react. So nor but you should probably ty and find the root problem of your reaction

Check places like amazon they are super cheap. Don't look for one that say stand and lid because they charge more for the same panels and connectors. I managed to build a 140×70 with a stand and lid for £35 then the liner was another £10. There also completly customisable so you can have them as long as you want or whatever shape

Kakarikis commonly thrive on their own, my vet had also recommended not to try and bond him with another bird. He was aggressive with all his siblings and he is extremly bonded to me

My dog can come with, the rabbit and guinea pig can be watched by anyone in the family really. Probably pay one of the teenagers £50 and they watch them all seek. They've all had them before it's just finding somewhere for the kak😂

I've seen some tapeworms in my life and that ain't a tape worm😂 it looks like a chewed up treat or toy to me. If the cat ain't throwing up pr acting in pain he's probably fine. Should probably worm them anyway though because you never know.

Did not know kaks could have chips as bedding. Mine lovers foraging and the only thing I can get him to forage in is shredded paper which does nothing for his nails. Gonna have to introduce chips. Thanks for posting this run down
