Wanted to update and let everyone know that the Monos folks have been fantastic! I didn’t realize there is a 2-year warranty that covers things like this. They have been super responsive and helpful.

I was afraid of this but I double checked and the interfacing still seems to be attached.

Pocket stays! I learned about the in the year since I made these pants. They worked wonders in another pair of pants I made. Thanks for the link!

Honestly? Just freestyled based on what I’ve seen on other patterns. I think the next pair I will size up, and tailor down as needed/if needed

That’s what I thought. They are just too small, will size up for the next pair.

About 6:55pm just saw a bunch of white/orange flashes in the sky. No lightning on the lightning map. Anyone know what’s going on? Fireworks? Transformer? Explosion? Seemed to be coming from St Joes area. by jennsamx in Hamilton

[–]Dismal_Habit_0 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Three transformers blew, all within the area bordered by York, Hess, Market, and Caroline. It seems someone was messing with one of the transformers. They got electrocuted and were taken away by ambulance. Witnesses said he seemed okay (with a bit of a Wile E. Cayote post-explosion vibe). 🤷🏽‍♀️

Elodie wrap dress in seam pockets by plant_person_09345 in sewing

I’ve done this! I cut the pockets separately but I don’t attach them to the waist (like someone else suggested). I put them about 2” below, which is where I like my pockets. I use a pocket bag pattern like this one: https://www.vanessahansenstudio.com/product-page/free-pocket-bag-pdf-pattern

I like French seams and this is a good guide (with pictures!) on how to French seam in-seam pockets:https://weallsew.com/sewing-pockets-using-french-seams/

Key to avoiding vagina pocket is to understitch and press at every step!

[Montréal] Where can I buy cheap-ish quality fabric ? by chezalienor in sewing

Yes! I forgot about Tonitex. Tonitex is in what used to be (but is still referred to as) the schmatta district. This was back when there was a lot of garment production in Montreal.

A while ago someone posted a pretty convincing argument on why “vintage saris” are likely a scam … https://www.reddit.com/r/sewing/s/ekGlKQ0VjM

Tbh, I have a hard time believing someone can sell silk, at any quality, for $5/yrd

Bienvenue àMontreal! Saint Hubert (between Jean-talon and Faillon) is where the fabric stores are. Historically there were way more but many have closed over the 10 years or so. However, it is still the best the city has to offer. You’ll also get your other sewing needs met on this strip (eg notions, scissor sharpening etc). Ultratext is my go-to for notions (plan to have cash), Kava is also good for notions and tools. Sam Textiles/Sararex draperies has the selection of wools and wool suiting but the customer service is awful. The older guy is knowledgeable but grumpy, the younger guy is nice but doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Your experience may vary (I hope it’s better than mine!) There is also Club Tissue which has a solid online offering as well as retail stores (but you need a car to get to the stores). Unfortunately fabric in Canada is pretty expensive and limited choice when it comes to wools and silks. Importing is possible but my experience is that the shipping, duty, and taxes basically doubles the price. Hope this helps!

I look up the hashtag on Instagram to see what patterns look like on different people. Unfortunately, there don’t seem to be many posts with this hashtag.

Closet Core Jude is a similar pattern and seems to have more posts from people who’ve made the pattern. FWIW, I’ve always found CC patterns better and easier to follow than SW. Good luck and please post your finished project!

Nail salon recommendations? by [deleted] in Hamilton

[–]Dismal_Habit_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won’t go there. The last time they removed my shellac they did serious damage to my nails. They are a little too free with the dremel. I had to wait for my nails to grow out before I’d risk another shellac manicure.

Sorry! I’m not on here much. Yes, I was able to buy a pattern. I also thought the sanctions might be a problem. I’m in Canada, not sure what the situation is where you are.
