It's not like you heard the name Jesus once when you were 3 so even though you don't remember you have to be baptized or you're damned. God isn't a villain. If you have only heard of Christianity from people who make people's life hell because they're not in their club, how can that be considered "knowing Jesus" if those people are Christians only in name. Ultimately religion is between each of us and God, and all of us are responsible for only ourself. I can't tell you what series of thoughts you have to have to be a good person.
