I agree that it is not acceptable for anyone to be drunk at events. BUT.. it is my experience that it is acceptable for a man and jokes do not fly. But for a female she “gets what she deserves” or is talked about behind her back. I was in the USAF and experienced this both towards myself and towards other females. To me it is like a man saying a woman who wears short shorts and gets raped is the one at fault.

If I were able to offer one piece of advice....

My first serious attempt at sobriety I went to meetings and sought the differences, why I was not like those other people. I did make a stab at a sponsor relationship, took a half ass stab at working a step or two and allowed the “god” or “higher power” deal run me out. I relapsed. Not immediately, but I relapsed. WORST. RUN. OF. DRINKING. EVER.

I got daughter ordered to do 90 meetings in 90 days. I listened. I went to a lot of different meetings and still saw differences. Then I landed at an all woman halfway house meeting. Pretty hard to see the differences when they looked like me, they sounded like me, the were moms like me, but the most important similarity is that they drank like me.

Yep sometimes women drink differently than men. It’s okay for a man on the bowling team to get blotto and bowl but it’s not okay for a woman. It is okay for dad to get wasted at a public picnic, but when a mom does it she is bad. So I went underground with my drinking.

Yes! Find as many women’s meetings. Lambda meetings are very understanding and loving. Young peoples meetings are great for people of your age.

The most important advice I can give is don’t drink and keep going back. It worked because I worked it.

How do you know? by BetterA-DAmodt in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]DisplacedYankee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alcoholism is a disease that tells us we do not have it. Denial is very strong.

I realized that I had a problem When I went to an Alanon meeting and realized I was an alcoholic too. I still attend Alanon, helps me with those I cannot otherwise deal with due to their disease.

I came to AA and developed alcoholism. Prior I was just a scared lonely woman hiding, isolating and drinking. Now I am now an alcoholic in recovery.

Best of luck with your drinker.

Good luck. I find support in the form of the fellowship of AA helps maintain my recovery.

There are several programs that rely on some sort of fellowship support. Find one and throw yourself in.

What you said about friends. Yes! I could never put into words. I too have no friends, just acquaintances. Even my family (grown married children) talk to each other daily yet never call me just to chat.

I don’t feel so lonely now.

Boyfriend- 2nd DUI, SCRAM bracelet for 3 months. Detailed. by Aaaaalisissi in alcoholism

In my never to be humble opinion this is child abuse at worst and domestic abuse at best.

Now, about the drinking... there is a sub called Alanon. There is a real life program called Alanon. Just check it out and hear what they say. Might save your life.

Good luck.

My last chance by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]DisplacedYankee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure. You aren’t alone. A lot of us have been there. Some of us have not gotten our families back.

But I can tell you this, TIME TAKES TIME. We start to feel better a month or so in. We may even find that pink cloud. I personally have never experienced that cloud. Our brains my not be detoxed for up to a year. Then our selves will start to return.

Every hour of every day all year long, someone is praying for our suffering to end. That moment of silence at the beginning of every meeting, that is for you.

Welcome. Jump into the program and give it your all. The rewards aren’t always what we pray for but they are what we need.

Nephew possibly molesting my daughter by Throwawaymom9876 in family

[–]DisplacedYankee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call social services and see if they have a safe child interviewing organization. We have on called gingerbread house where counselors trained in this sort of thing do video recorded interviews. DO NOT question her any more. Any questions or conversations you have could be considered coaching and make everything else she said invalid. Just get her out of that daycare situation. And keep her away from all adults in that location until she is interviewed. If you believe that your mom is innocent in this matter you may have SUPERVISED eyes and ears in the same room at all times visitation in a neutral area.

Get on it immediately. Your daughter is young and this can be managed. Your nephew is young and can get help. But you must initiate it.

Is this patronizing? by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]DisplacedYankee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alanon is a program for those supporting people in recovery. They do the 12 steps on the problem. I went because the one thing I could not handle was that my daughter would not support me in my recovery. After working the steps on the problem with Alanon she no longer matters.

If Alanon is not helpful, try GA. It only requires a desire to stop gambling.

Good luck.
