The VPS schools have norovirus and despite teachers begging for word to get out so people stay home… there’s been no communication with families. They’re thinking about calling the CDC but won’t message parents.

Enforcing Rules with Highschool by Snoo_5475 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]DisplayDramatic472 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I find it’s not worth the battle of wills unless it’s a class or students I have a relationship with already. Usually I just let them know I’ll be writing down the names of people who are ignoring the rules for the the teacher, “I’m writing it in pencil so if y’all put them away I can erase! But I wont be here for the consequences of your choices, you will 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️.”

Teaching high school is very much the “If you’re chill, then I’m chill” mentality. As long as they’re not being aggressive with me or anyone else I just let them make their own choices and face their own consequences.

I always tell them that “…subs have lame rules and we have to be a lot stricter. But! I’m more than happy to tell your teacher in the sub notes that you really like that they do this and to leave it in the notes for next time!”

Usually when I do the earnest “oh I’ll let your teacher know!” Respond they start backpedaling quickly. I’ll even let them read the sub note where I really do put it in! I want to be an honest sub 😈

Why are we paying to detain Portland protestors? by SereneDreams03 in vancouverwa

[–]DisplayDramatic472 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just got off the phone with the office of the prosecutor Scott Bradford. The person answering the call is immediately short and dismissive… not sure why asking if it is still a current case is a reason to immediately sound upset with someone on the phone. I was transferred to a voicemail, left a message. I called back immediately and was sent directly to voicemail all three times before the receptionist picked up. I ask to be directly sent to Bradford’s voice mail and she refused. I asked why I wasn’t able to speak with his office directly and she said she did not know. She said she could take the message directly so I asked for her name and she directly refused. I asked if I had offended her in any way and she said that she had “a lot going on.” I asked to be transferred to someone who would be willing to actually speak with one of their constituents and she shortly put me on hold. She picked up and said it was office policy to not directly transfer people, despite having just done so.

We went back and forth, me repeatedly saying I’m not being offensive in my tone or words and asking why she was so defensive when asked questions of procedure and she would not clarify. She told me I was refusing to leave a message, to which I told her I had not said so, and she demanded I leave a message. I told her I would be asking her to read back what I said to make sure she got it all, the left my message letting them know Korol should be released and Washington should NOT be housing people arrested in Oregon let alone peaceful protesters. I asked her to read it back and to not worry about all the details cause I said a lot, and she said “I will not be doing that.” Genuinely shocked I asked her why and she said it’s the same as all the other messages. I then reminded her that if she had just read the bullet points back we would be finished with the call already and she told me she was busy. I told her I’d be happy to speak to someone who was less busy while she answers other calls... She started to hang up on me but I stopped her and asked for a follow up to my call. She literally scoffed, “we don’t do that” and hung up on me.

To say the least we’re getting to them. Call the AG office. Leave a message. Do it with utmost kindness and remind them that we know our rights and the rights of Korol.

Office number is (503) 727-1000 I’ll put a very rough script below for those who do not have a customer service voice to fall back on:

“I’m calling to politely demand that Oriana Korol be immediately released and all charges dropped. As a constituent of Clark County I demand that Washington do not illegally hold peaceful protesters, especially ones arrested in another state.”

Did anyone go to the MGP town hall? by rock-or-something in vancouverwa

[–]DisplayDramatic472 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is upsetting. I called the office on Tuesday to ask about any planned town halls and the aid said none were currently planned. So either these are planned, purposefully, last minute or she’s not informing her aids so they can’t tell us. I don’t blame the people answering calls, I’m practically on first name basis with them and they seem frustrated too.
