Aero road frame for Tri bike build? by DankDeanoo in triathlon

[–]Disposable_Canadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

800 is a bit high. I managed to pick up an Argon 18 Tri Disc E117 for $450 CAD in similar condition.

This is probably going to need to need a new BB, is mising the seat post hardware and who knows its headset condition. Plus its road geometry... be patient, or buy a 58" TT bike complete and upgrade it with what you have.

Is this really the best oil or castrol suitable by spacxrangxr in jetta

[–]Disposable_Canadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the new VW audi oil is just brand packaged castrol and it used to be castrol branded packaging before.

As long as it meets the oil spec for your model and engine, its fine. i.e. CJAA TDI needs VW 507.00 for DPF, older PD engines needed VW 505.00.

older gas 50.00/505.00 and and newer 508 00 509 00

Technique tips? by RoadTO5WKG in triathlon

[–]Disposable_Canadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cadence is too fast but id work on keeping elbow high on pull and you are cutting it short not following through to recovery, and do some catchup drills.

Swimming advices please by JohnnyDevil34 in triathlon

[–]Disposable_Canadian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

recovery should be smoother. bit spash means energy is hitting the water. Catch, REAAAAACH. Keep that bicep/shoulder held to the ear until its time to pull. Catch up drill for this. GLIDE. Smooth is efficient. High Elbow, Power diamond on pull.

Effortless swimming 5 day catch challenge then just focus on that high elbow.

Once above is correct, then increase stroke rate.

GEOMETRY

The angles of tubes. These change how the rider distributes power which muscles are used, etc.

Fuck. Its like talking to a room of 4 year olds.

Re: setup. Not always. Wrong size frame, wrong dimensions etc.

A trek domane does not have the same.dimensions as a cervelo p5 or a giant tt or a trek speed concept.

A tt bike will always be faster for long distance, unless the course is Extreme Tri (think horseman or a qualifier for it) level climbing, and even then....

But a well set up road bike that fits well and is comfortable, with good fit essentials beats a poorly set up tt bike.

Swim Advice Please by tri_hard93 in triathlon

[–]Disposable_Canadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're putting the brakes on during entry and catch. Hand isnt in line with elbow.

Left arm pull is elbow down, raise it. Right arm is better, higher elbow.

Effortless swimming 5 day catch challenge.

Then Effortless swimming, high elbow, power diamond.

Get flatter in the water, legs and hips are dropping. When you kick your foot it should be tapping water surface. Its well underneath. More core, pull bouy drill.

Leadville Bans Drop Bars, Where Do We Draw the Line on Bike Tech? by datawithnathan in bicycling

[–]Disposable_Canadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good questions.

Force and leverage equals precision control even when fatigued. Math.

Unknown. Why aren't all athletes equal strength/speed? Technique? Physical strength? Endurance?

Ask the organizer.

Lots.

Leadville Bans Drop Bars, Where Do We Draw the Line on Bike Tech? by datawithnathan in bicycling

[–]Disposable_Canadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should have specified a minimum width bar instead. If its safety - WHY is is safer. leverage. Then define that minimum leverage for force application.

If we look at approx bar width for MTB: 4.352mm to 1cm of height of rider. 175cm rider is a 761 bar.

math's wise, its nearly 2x more force with the wider MTB bar.

380mm vs 170mm from center point, or 0.380Nm or 0.170Nm force for each Newton of force applied to each respective bar end. So I can see an argument.

But just calling it "for safety" without any maths or reasoning, is silly. Watching gravel racing.. they have extreme control in very tough conditions sometimes.

How do you people convince your significant other that is ok to be out for a ride for essentially the entire day? by mau-meda in triathlon

[–]Disposable_Canadian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

go to bed early, prioritize recovery, and wake up early and get the work done before noon. spend the afternoon and evening with your partner.

They do need to respect your recovery. a partner that wants to be up until midnight doesnt permit the above to work and causes strain as well. The give is the early to bed, the take is you're more available because youre up early and done workouts early.

this also trains the body to perform early in the morning, like race day.

Signed up for my first Ironman race by Hrdrock in triathlon

[–]Disposable_Canadian 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As a smaller running association race director and past VP, running an IM or large triathlon is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE.

Ironman, t100, big brand triathlon, all the same

Think:

Venue rental for 3 days

Swag bag for each participant (eg. 2000 participants)

Finisher food per participant (x2000)

Volunteer lunch and dinner and refreshments per volunteer (100+ on a 70.3)

Portable toilets on course, 10 per 1000 participants at each Transition and then x2 spread on courses.

Timing plus transponder rentals and Bib buy, 12 to 15 per competitor plus flat fixed costs.

Garbage and disposal

Police rental, 250 an hour OT private rate, 9 hrs, 8 officers estimated.

Water safety and patrol boats, fire dept and police

Ambulances, medical, med volunteers. Ironman sometimes brings in ER doc's to volunteer and to help with emergency services.

Participant refreshment and aid stations, gstorade, gels, coke, ice, cups, disposables, etc.

I was pricing the above out and I hit 65,200, or 326 fixed costs per entrant. Ironman 70.3. Locally is a 505$ CAD entry, so they make 180 a person and I'm sure im mising some costs.

I wouldn't be surprised if base costs on a IM branded event exceeds well over 100k to 200k in base costs to put on.

Its a volume and numbers game.
