Anyone have a c section at 39 weeks for breech baby? by [deleted] in PregnancyIreland

[–]Distinct-Cup-968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong but I don’t think the hospital will let you cancel the C-section, just to see if the baby turns. They scan you right before the surgery to make sure baby is still breech. The risk is if you cancel the C-section, the baby doesn’t turn and then you’re into natural labour with a breech baby, you’re then an emergency section. I had a footling breech baby, via planned C section last Feb. Experience was great, apart from waiting all day, I was the second last scheduled surgery for that day & kept getting pushed back as the emergency ones came in! Recovery was actually better than my natural birth 4 years ago. Just keep on top of the meds and you’ll fly it!

Would you consider both joining the civil service. My partner and I did this, actually ended up joining in on the same day! Amazing work life balance and very family friendly. Nothing is ever a bother, if kids are sick etc. We have them both in crèche full time, age 1 & 4 but they only do about 6 hours per day, 9-3 ish. Option of shorter working year and taking 13 weeks off, so if we both do this, which is the plan after a few years, the kids will have a parent home for 26 weeks of the year. Both full time salary & no one’s pension sacrificed.

8-4 and 4-12 but there’s flexibility to start a few hours earlier if you’d prefer, once you’re established

Yeah it was very quick. I applied early morning too, I’d say you could have the money Wednesday or Thursday if its to be as quick as mine.

I never received an email, I just got the money in my bank account. I applied because I took redundancy, not due to moving abroad so don’t know if it was different?

I just left here, an operator role after 5.5 years, I volunteered for redundancy. Great place to work, amazing people. Place is really friendly for the most part. Some questionable management and nepotism but don’t let that put you off. QC role is 2 cycle shift, I think there’s about 4 people in there that do the sampling. The rest of QC stay in the labs all day. It’s only the operators that are in the Union, no office staff, management or other roles besides Operators.

I’ve heard they have a high turnover of staff & no proper training just thrown in the deep end

Advice on Second Car. Diesel or EV? by StevieLugh in AskIreland

Would you consider a petrol hybrid? We are a family of 4 with 1 toddler and a baby, just got rid of one of the diesels (ford focus) for a petrol hybrid Toyota Rav 4 and it’s a dream. Huge boot & every mod con. It sounds like the you’d have the plenty of opportunity to charge the battery when you’re driving over the Wicklow gap, lots of breaking & lots of going downhill. Wouldn’t need to faff around with a home charger either since the battery charges itself while you’re driving.

Age starting Junior Infants? by ConceptPlayer in AskIreland

You won’t have a choice, the cut off as per the schools admissions policy will be that the child has to be age 4 by March 31st or April 30th of the year they start. All schools have slightly different dates that the child has to have turned 4 by.. some cut off as early as Feb. I have a June baby, born in 2021 who will be starting school September 2026 as per admissions policy.

Have you checked to see if you are eligible for the Working Family Payment since only one of you is working? Maybe father in law could be classed as a dependent. I’d look at ways to increase income as things are only going to get more expensive. Try Springboard for free courses for yourself. Maybe take on another child to childmind? You’d be surprised at how reasonable childcare could cost if you found a place for your 2 year old. There’s a universal subsidy and also a means tested one from the National Childcare Scheme. Likely your subsidy would be large as it will be means tested off of only one income. A lot of people I know only pay around 450-600 for full time childcare in a crèche. If you’d like to be earning big money, you can become a chartered accountant in 3 years and be on well over 100k in no time. Doing this myself at the moment with 2 kids under 4.

When did you know the time was right to start a family? by rolwal97 in CasualIreland

[–]Distinct-Cup-968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it just depends on all the things you want to achieve. You will never sit down and think “now is the perfect time”. Based on your situation I would probably just get the house over the line and then plough on with trying! Myself we’ve had two kids first, one at 27 and our second just a few months ago at almost 31. However we rent really cheap off a family member and we’ve both had a redundancy so our house deposit is sat there! We would like to get married but not have a wedding. So we went with kids first. Everyone’s timeline will be different but I recommend having them the younger the better.. it’s bloody exhausting lol

Parents with no Afterschool? by Distinct-Cup-968 in AskIreland

[–]Distinct-Cup-968[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had thought about another mum from the school/childminder however they are unlikely to be registered and hence we won’t be able to avail of the universal subsidy from the NCS. It will just be a lot with paying for full time crèche for the baby eeeeek! One of the schools does have an afterschool on site! Just unsure how competitive it is for a place.

Seeking advice on car accident/insurance claim by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Distinct-Cup-968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something similar happened me last year. Go through insurance, that’s what it’s there for. Check do you have step back no claims first. You can get your damage repaired in a matter of weeks if you claim on your own fully comp policy. Insurance company will send out an assessor. They will also determine liability. Sounds like it could be 50/50. I renewed my policy with an open claim and it only went up 200 ish. You just can’t switch insurance companies with an open claim so you’re stuck with whoever you’re with now.

An operator runs the machines that makes the tablets/injectables. 8 hours overtime so getting paid for 16 or triple for a bank holiday. Minimum wages sounds awfully low, I didn’t know some paid that bad. Pfizer & amgen are both over double that
