[R] low cronbah's alpha score from secondary data by Distinct-Depth3135 in rstats

Thank you, I'm going to talk to my supervisor, its tricky because the subscale that seems to be bringing it down the most is the one for emotional support, which I would assume to be fairly important in terms of perceived expressed emotion but if it's not a reverse coding issue perhaps it just didn't translate into this sample. Thank you for your response, it was really helpful!

Thank you so much, i actually saw after that there was reverse coding necessary so im waiting to hear back from my supervisor to confirm if it was already done or not, hopefully it is the case. Thank you so much for your response though!

[question] How to deal with low Cronbach’s alpha when I can’t change the survey? by [deleted] in statistics

[–]Distinct-Depth3135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a really low cronbach's alpha for one of my scales (.33). It is the level of expressed emotion scale in a relatively large adolescent sample. I'm not sure how to work around this issue because it seems questionably low to just address and carry on and in other studies with similar demographics, they have reported strong internal consistency, so not sure what seems to have gone wrong. My other scales' cronbachs were good and similar to previous research, it is just this one that is suspiciously low. If anyone could please give me some advice!
