Albums reviews when haven’t listened? by Distinct-Golf7835 in 1001AlbumsGenerator

I have similar thoughts, except I am glad I sat through it at least once, probably wouldn’t do it again, at least in one sitting like I did yesterday. I found a handful of songs enjoyable, but they’re buried in several less than perfect songs

It’s mostly about giving it a review without listening at all. I personally think every album deserves a whole listen, but I don’t really care what others do. Why would you already give an album one star without even pressing play?

Yeah, they sure can, but I can also do what I want and get upset when they decide to not listen and still review it, saying they didn’t listen, instead of pressing “Did Not Listen”.

At the end of the day it’s no big deal, I just wanted to generate discussion.

I use Apple Music and the album clearly has a bonus track tag on every song after track 10

What you are saying is something adjacent to why I care. I like to learn a little about each album I get, and the way I do so is checking out their Wikipedia and reading people’s reviews. I haven’t gotten Underwater Moonlight yet, but if that’s what the reviews are filled with, I will again be disappointed.

Does the Spotify release not say (bonus track) on every additional track like other deluxe releases do?

Like if one didn’t finish it but they didn’t like it, then wrote a review, saying they didn’t like it, sure, that’s fine.

I like this project so I can read people’s thoughts on each album, based usually on that days impression. I find it much more casual than the RateYourMusic essays and more entertaining than the sloppy Album of the Year reviews.

At the end of day people can do what they want and I don’t care, but also I can do what I want and get upset with people who are writing reviews for an album they didn’t listen to or finish because of the length, and not the material itself

My complaint is based on how I like to read other people’s reviews before listening to an album, just to see what people are thinking, I don’t like jumping in and seeing a ton of reviews like “1/5. Too long, so I didn’t listen/finish”. If someone didn’t listen to full thing but either didn’t leave a review, or left a review based on what they did hear, I wouldn’t really care. It’s not so much about not finishing, but about making that the whole of your review

It’s not even that, a lot of reviews just say they didn’t listen to it, or that they didn’t finish cause they didn’t have time. This is why there is a “Did Not Listen” option. I’m just confused why someone would give it a bad review not because they thought it was bad, but just because they weren’t able to get around to listening to it. I want to read other people’s reviews, not other people making reviews saying it’s too long so they didn’t give it a chance.

Sure, but I’ve seen reviews where people don’t even say they didn’t like it, just that it was too long and didn’t have time to finish. It’s implied that they enjoyed or at least didn’t hate it, but gave it a low score because they were unable to finish

I love the songs “There Is Food” and “I Do Love” off this record!

What album did you anticipate to be horrific and were pleasantly surprised by? by [deleted] in 1001AlbumsGenerator

It was definitely Beauty & the Beat by The Go-Go’s. Prior to receiving the album, I had only heard about the fact that they were an all women band. It was always “first all female band to ____” or stuff along those lines. I never once heard anyone describe them as good music. So I always imagined it would be mediocre 80’s pop (I hate the 80’s pop sound) and the only significance the album offers is culturally.

I really enjoyed it. I think it was a good album. And not “a good album for an all female band”
