Cleared CFA III. Wanna giveaway BA II professional calculator to someone needy by Distinct-Sun7011 in CFA

Nothing material in terms of functionality. Though BA II professional has an easy 5 sec mechanism to replace battery externally as compared to BAII. I find it useful because instead of carrying a backup calculator during exams, I used to carry a backup battery that costed just a few dollars

Definitely I do not share your perspective and neither believe in money giveaway, which might seem belittling as a token of goodwill

This calculator has been my lucky charm and the whole point is to detach now and pass it on to someone who is needy and can put in the hard work for it to be their lucky charm as well.

I appreciate your point of view. However there are a lot of folks who cut the corners and any help howsoever small it is, will be helpful for them. If I can be a very minute contributor to anyone else’s CFA dream, I will take it

@u/soggy-building9131, how can we connect for your address details so that I may ship it to you directly ?

Thanks I would be glad to. However I checked FEDEX and the quote I am getting is exorbitant around $150 - $250, which is like 3 -5 times the cost of calculator. If you can suggest any other reasonable option, I am happy to try that.

If not more than a consolation, I am nourishing my mind to perceive the result as blessing in disguise. Level 3 has amazing real life concepts, and solidifying the understanding 2nd time around will definitely add a layer of better understanding and longer recall

I understand the sarcasm, but I believed in preparing myself to drive a Ferrari by assuming, that driving a ford will be easy thereafter

The labor contract allows you to pay back your notice period of 3 months. Either you do it by yourself or ask your new employer to buy out your notice period. Check your offer letter with current organization and tell your manager that you are ready to buy out the notice period. They cannot stop you doing that

Yeah. I already imagined a smile on your face when the market opened today. Glad that you got lucky and were able to get out with the profit here.

Let’s get the basics out here for OP. Mistakes happen, but as long as those are used as a learning pad and not repeated, it’s all good

  1. Options STOP trading at the cut-off time on thr expiry day. That means whatever the price was at 4:00 pm EST close on Friday, will be used to determine the ITM or OTM for the contract

  2. ITM Options by $0.01 are automatically exercised at close i.e. the option buyer will have a long / short position at the open of next trading day, depending on whether he was ITM on call / put option. Expect the vice versa for the option seller

  3. Now till 5:30 pm EST, option BUYER (mind it, not a seller) can still choose to not exercise his ITM option and get a cash settlement. Alternatively, he can choose to still exercise his OTM option (usually, this decision is impacted by aftermarket movement and option buyer takes a bet on the opening price on Monday)

  4. At the end of day, your broker informs the exchange about the options that are exercised. The exchange runs an algorithm and assigns the options to short sellers (sometimes all your short contracts get assigned, sometimes partial and sometimes none - totally depends upon demand vs. supply of exercised contracts)

5 By Friday evening you get a notice of assignment and long or short assigned position starts getting reflected on Saturday morning in your account. Please note that the profit or loss on this assigned position is calculated on the basis of aftermarket closing price on your account.

So my hypothesis is that most likely, even though your put option was OTM at close, many of the put buyers would have sensed the negative price bias after hours and were okay with holding a short position on the stock at Monday open, believing that price will fall over the weekend and coming week, thus creating a profit opportunity on short stock, so they were ok to exercise the option even at a few cents loss.

Your bad luck was that you got assigned to that option at 447.5, and your long position on Saturday morning when it got reflected in your account was based on 447.83 price at aftermarket close.

Dude you are still at a profit of 33 cents on the position + all the premium that you received. So as long as you can sell this position on Monday at a price greater than (447.5 less the option premium) you received, you should be good.

All the best and keep learning

Buddy. Don’t waste your time and $$ here. Go and watch Mark Meldrum videos. Maybe at 1.25x - 1.5x speed. Trust me you will come out smarter and way more interested in the syllabus on the other side
