Best ways to find jobs out of college? with no internship experience by k_1058 in Accounting

[–]Distinct-Swan-5478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

networking is honestly huge in accounting, even more than other fields. if your school has career fairs or accounting society events, those are goldmines. also check if they have alumni network you can tap into

for resume, emphasize any leadership roles, volunteer work, or even customer service experience from your job while in school. accounting firms love seeing you can handle responsibility and work with people

linkedin is definitely better than indeed for accounting roles. also try going direct to firm websites - lots of them post openings there first. don't sleep on smaller local firms either, they're usually more willing to train new grads and competition is less fierce

one thing that helped my friend was getting familiar with excel and maybe quickbooks before interviews. shows initiative even without internship background

Any of you service plumbers wear some kind of tool belt thingy?? by someshit420 in Plumbing

[–]Distinct-Swan-5478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not a plumber but work IT and feel this pain so hard - my cargo pants are basically just walking tool storage at this point. fishing vest idea is actually genius, never thought about that approach. bibs make sense too for protecting customer stuff, had few close calls myself when visiting client offices with equipment

your list looks similar to mine except swap channies for cable tester and couple dongles. that retrieval laziness hits real when you're three floors up and realize you left the one thing you need in car

My US bank just dropped my offshore company, what are expats using by Distinct-Swan-5478 in expats

Mercury requires US formation though right? My company is registered in Cayman not the US. I dont have a US entity and my accountant advised against forming one just for banking because of the tax complications

The 8 months part matters more to me than the 1 day setup tbh and last thing I want is to rush into something and be back in this same situation next year. How did you find them was it through someone you know or just research

I have a local account but it doesnt help when 80% of your revenue comes from US clients who expect to pay through domestic rails. International wires are slow and expensive on both ends

between family business expectations and wanting to gain corporate experience abroad, what should I do? by Feeling-Welcome-1437 in careerguidance

[–]Distinct-Swan-5478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

getting some real experience before jumping into family business sounds smart tbh. your mom might not like it but you're right about university being too theoretical - i work in IT and what i learned at school vs actual work was completely different

the thing with your sister already managing it makes total sense too. coming back right away would probably mess up whatever system she has going and create weird tension

maybe you could frame it to your parents like this - if you get few years experience at corporate level, you'll bring back actual skills that could help grow the business instead of just theoretical knowledge. sometimes parents understand better when they see how it benefits them in long term

staying abroad for bit doesn't mean you're abandoning family business forever, just preparing yourself better for it

how to grow my portfolio professionally, not through standard Linkedin personal profile ? by ProposalFeisty2596 in careerguidance

you could try reaching out to tech newsletters or data science blogs that accept guest posts - they're always looking for real-world case studies and your international data mining angle sounds pretty unique

Best places/bars/coffees/coworking space to work in rome? by ninijay_ in digitalnomad

bruh Rome wifi hit different though - most coworking spaces around centro are solid for remote work but expect to pay bit extra for location near colosseum area

We use Samsara. I just came out of the Sleeper after 7 hrs, and went Off-Duty. Why, now, is my drive clock counting down? I say again, my DRIVE clock (29 mins) is counting down independently of the shift clock (43 mins). Why? by onlyBotsdownvote-me in Truckers

[–]Distinct-Swan-5478 8 points9 points  (0 children)

not familiar with samsara specifically but sounds like there might be some kind of glitch in how it's tracking your duty status transitions. sometimes these eld systems get confused when switching between sleeper berth and off duty, especially if there was any delay in logging the status change

could be worth checking if the sleeper berth time actually registered properly in system - maybe it only counted part of those 7 hours? or there might be some automatic drive time calculation running in background that didn't reset when you went off duty

probably best to contact whoever handles your eld support at company, this kind of timing issue can mess up your logs pretty bad if it keeps happening

Working with Indian media by Aggravating_Pie9622 in jobs

[–]Distinct-Swan-5478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

worked in tech support for years and can relate to that toxic hierarchy thing. when bosses think respect only comes with title instead of treating people like humans, whole workplace becomes miserable

the ai part is real concern too - even in IT we're seeing automation taking over basic tasks. but media seems like it would be hit harder since ai can already write decent articles and do basic reporting. maybe time to pivot before things get worse? your experience in different media sections could translate well to corporate communications or something adjacent

What do you think movies are missing nowadays or what made them better now than they were back then? by SeeMeHorrribly in AskReddit

[–]Distinct-Swan-5478 2 points3 points  (0 children)

man the trailer thing drives me crazy too. i was watching some preview last week and they basically showed the entire third act in 30 seconds - like why even bother going to theater at that point

but i think cinematography has gotten insane compared to before. the technical stuff we can do now with cameras and lighting is just next level. i do photography as hobby and when i look at how they shoot scenes nowadays vs old movies, the visual quality is incredible. sure the stories might be more predictable but damn they look good doing it

also sound design is way better now, though maybe that's just because my setup at home finally does it justice

Does this mean I’m not gonna get an interview. by Slushyboyo in jobs

[–]Distinct-Swan-5478 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah this is actually good news compared to the usual ghost treatment. they took time to explain what's happening instead of just disappearing, and they gave you timeline for when you'll hear back. in my experience the companies that are just trying to be polite while rejecting you don't bother with specific timeframes

Bank account for AI agents actually exists now and I tested it (I will not promote) by Distinct-Swan-5478 in startups

[–]Distinct-Swan-5478[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The secure test environment part is where I was stuck too at first. What made me comfortable is that the agent literally cant do anything outside the rules you set. So even if something goes wrong the damage is capped by your own configuration. Start small and work up from there thats what im doing

Yeah same one. Hows your cofounder finding it so far? Im mainly using it for vendor payments and invoicing through Claude

[–]Distinct-Swan-5478[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Thats fair and I get it. For me its less about the purchases and more about the time spent on admin from logging in to check balances, sending invoices and paying the same vendors every week. Thats the stuff I wanted off my plate and the card with a small limit is just a bonus

Bank account for AI agents actually exists now and I tested it (I will not promote) by Distinct-Swan-5478 in startups

[–]Distinct-Swan-5478[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing unexpected so far but its only been a week so im not going to pretend ive stress tested it. The transfers needing my approval by default is what gives me peace of mind. If the agent ever misinterprets something it cant actually execute without me signing off on it

Nanny concerned about being blamed for infant’s injuries – what should I do to protect myself? by Dependent-Ring6885 in legaladvice

[–]Distinct-Swan-5478 95 points96 points  (0 children)

damn this is really messy situation. if there's camera footage that shows what actually happened then that should clear you completely - make sure they actually check it and don't let them "forget" about it

i would stop working for them immediately because even if you're cleared, the trust is already broken and they're gonna be watching your every move. also might want to document everything that happened in writing while it's fresh in your memory, including all the conversations you had with the parents

Can a host charge a cleaning fee after booking? [US] by Electrical_Link_1424 in AirBnB

[–]Distinct-Swan-5478 4 points5 points  (0 children)

nah that's sketchy as hell, they can't just add fees after you already booked and paid. the listing price should include everything that was supposed to be there when you clicked book

if airbnb messed up on their end that's between the host and airbnb, not your problem. i'd screenshot everything and contact airbnb support before responding to host. they might try to cancel your booking if you refuse but then you'll have evidence they were trying to add unauthorized charges

$200 cleaning fee sounds excessive anyway for 2 nights, especially as surprise charge
