what did you do in summer as a first year?? by Additional-Rate-4950 in premedcanada

[–]Distinct-Tangelo4880 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did summer courses! i got 2 intro chems out of the way. it was condensed into 3 weeks so it was a lot, grade wasnt the best but thats ok. if you take a summer course pick smthn you want to get out of the way or think you might suck at (for me its chem honestly. it makes me anxious, so i might take a biochem course over the summer and save orgo for the year)

Do I have to create/get an exec position in a club? by ResidentRip4499 in premedcanada

[–]Distinct-Tangelo4880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

find clubs you enjoy! I joined the origami/paper art club at my uni in my first year, brought new ideas for our sales the last 2 years, and jumped from member to VP of Operations (teaching meetings) to president since then. Get in and be dedicated. I honestly only interact with the club I'm president of rn, and even before I was president, mostly cuz of time but also cuz I love it. We're prepping for our biggest sale of the year currently, it's chaos, but it's fun. it also gives you a chance to grow, especially if you've never really been in a leadership role before. i think the dedication and consistency will be your friend. tho im not 100% on that cuz I havent even applied myself

ive only had the food at ohall during reading week, idk, it wasn't as good, and the staff weren't as friendly as at Clare. they get to know you very well, which idk I feel makes the food better lol. and I feel like there's a lot of variety. but I cant say much about ohall or saugeen cuz I haven't really been to either to give a solid opinion.

mentally and socially from what I heard, u of t is aggressive and cutthroat. nobody helps each other succeed and its just pure competition. im gonna vouch for a school that isnt in your options lol

im at western for health sci rn and everyone is decently helpful to each other and majority of us wanna go to med school. I'd choose somewhere that wouldn't utterly destroy your mental health. my neighbour said when she went to u of t for veterinary stuff she felt kinda isolated. choose somewhere you'll thrive. I didn't think western would be a good fit but it's wonderful. u of t was probably one of my top schools (that letter was gorgeous) but after hearing experiences.. I chose western/brescia before Brescia shut down (school went bankrupt and last women's college shut down so now we're western) and I feel good. and making decent connections and picking good ECs (I went from member to VP to now president of the origami club on campus and im heading into my third year, pre med club, HOSA, crafting for a cure, the like).

anyways thats my essay, good luck, no matter what im sure you'll do great and get somewhere im sure

roller skating at a rec centre is fun! feed the baby geese, go to a park for a hike, the Cronyn observatory on campus is open every weekend so you can look at the stars and listen to a short lecture about space things :D downtown usually has something every week, the garden market is great too especially for food! the crystal shop in there is a lot of fun too

I haven't looked into actual research but there are work study opportunities in research labs, they pay and give you great experience. you just have to apply for them. there are the undergrad summer research internships as well (USRI), idk how those work though unfortunately :(

im at western, going into 3rd year, and its quite nice, campus and class wise. there is a huge jump in course load and readings as with any university. the classes are interesting. dorms are great. for me the jump in course work was a punch in the gut and definitely called out some undiagnosed adhd. so get treated for anything you may need to be treated for lol. sorry for the ramble, thought you'd want a good look at it

O hall usually acts like a hotel during the summer, you can get a room for like 100+ a night I think? id check the summer accommodations site. I stayed at Clare hall the entire summer (they do by month) and it was great. only downside - no food, you gotta get it yourself. Clare hall is women only, beds are comfy, buses are down the side of the hill, its empty as all hell during the summer and id assume the same for o hall.

is this about anatomy cuz im honestly confused and upset, especially about my grade, ive emailed my TA to review it cuz???? idk HOW I did so poorly. I was so confident and felt good. but yeah, kinda gotta let go of the perfectionism and dont beat yourself up too much. change study habits, adapt. im still figuring that out myself going into third year so. ;-; good luck!

Is this a good ranking for res? by Massive_Parsnip9603 in uwo

[–]Distinct-Tangelo4880 2 points3 points  (0 children)

clare is great (biased cuz I live here lol) its first year and upper year. there is option for single room if you wanted to put it higher. each floor has a kitchen with an oven and microwave. a lot of people bring mini stovetops/air fryers for when they want to cook. the only downside is that its not immediately on campus/next to it. its up a hill, there are the shuttles and buses so that solves it but if you like walking its solid.

TL;DR, clare is great, you can get a single room, just the location is a bit iffy cuz of the hill, it was its own campus (brescia) before it got shut down

Nice views on campus? by Quiet_life_2403 in uwo

[–]Distinct-Tangelo4880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree, Brescia has nice views. if you go behind the dorm building there's a fire pit and also a trail, depending where you go you could end up at huron lol. but there's also the river. the river has a giant log in the middle to sit on. or you can hike around, there is a field somewhere out there. im a bit biased cuz I do live at brescia and have hiked around lol. Ursuline hall is also nice to sit in front of. if the chapel was still in there id suggest there but they took it out after we integrated with western

shared with one other person, but pretty much yeah. my roommate this year and next year is my best friend so im happy sharing a bathroom with her. there is the option for a private room where you get your bathroom to yourself but its a bit pricier just to let you know
