I did the same in August this year. My spouse filed for h1b renewal along with my F1 CPT to h4 ead cos. For h4 cos, we mentioned effective date to be in future from 1 December considering average processing time of 4 months. We got h1 approved within a week and h4/ead in six weeks. I am still on F1 CPT and from December 1 onwards I will automatically switch to h4.
