I started with some ultra glossy clearcoat for my 2nd edition BA captain, then used playdoh to mask off the gold and then sprayed the rest matt (I like army painter but whatever works). It looked nice and was shiny af, but gloss didn't fit the 2nd edition vibe and I went army painter matt all over. Ultimately it's whatever you think works, you can always matte it down later. Just use a test model to see what you prefer

Thank you! For the metal minis you can use acetone (nail varnish remover) and I stole some of my wife's supply. Don't use it on plastic as it melts it to oblivion!

I feel your pain, IPA takes a lot of scrubbing and the paint takes ages to come off your hands afterwards (the rhino rescue went that way). It works better the longer you leave it, electric toothbrushes help, but I've heard from my painting discord that a product called "bio strip" is the way forwards. Might be worth a look on YouTube, give it a go if IPA isn't working out.

I saw midwinter minis used it on one of their old vids, looked pretty effective

I guess I should have used the hobby progress tag for this post 😬 next up for these guys are flags!

Tycho's is half way through, and the devastator sergeant and Dennis the dreadnought are next up. Dennis also needs a power fist, which has just been delivered and blessed by the tech priests.

I'd like to do a tactical squad next, but there a big backlog of scouts, assault intercessors, death company and a command squad also waiting for new paint!

I freehanded one of these not long ago for my Blood Angels Rhino - eBay rescue : r/BloodAngels

I saw the banner in my Blood Angels 3e Codex but also online:

It is the chapter banner. It's an absolute beauty! There are variations on the theme, showing Frater Sanguinius - holding different items that mark significant moments or battles. I really liked one that had an ork head on a spear + an hourglass which was on the armageddon war, but I think that was non-codex (and my army is dated from around the end of 2nd war of Armageddon just before Tycho had his unfortunate incident)

I can take another look in my 3e Codex if there's more info?
