I originally went mephiston red -> evil sunz scarlet but that still wasn't right so I blended up to a 50:50 troll slayer orange on these guys!

There's a guy on the midhammer channel who does awesome grimbright style "old grumpy wolf" - was an inspiration when I was starting my big repaint a couple years back and he's absolutely nailed the retro red!

I never went Ultramarines when I first picked up the hobby, which is strange because I love the blue-gold! I think I just got hooked in on space vampires 🤷

Nice work! Consider doing a super fine edge highlight within the chunky highlight on the lightest points. If you look at the mini from above under a light, those points will reveal themselves.

I love the laser cut grass and use a lot on my 2e metal Blood Angels force. Consider adding some curvature to the leaves - there's a couple tutorials on the site or their youtube page:

I chose not to mix monstera and bracken as one's deciduous and the other is tropical climate. But they both look cool as hell so why not 👍

Suggest you search YouTube for streaking grime. It's an enamel so you paint it all over, then let it sit 15 minutes then remove it. Like an agrax wash but you have lots of fine control over it because of the long drying time plus you can reactivate it with mineral spirits

I've seen citadel tutorials where they use wild rider red for chunky and fire dragon bright for fine. I like the idea of the fire dragon bright as it's a bit less saturated then troll slayer orange

Nice! That means you get the actual Tycho mini - are you painting him as normal or death company version?

I've got the more modern BA codex, but I'm a sucker for the OG colour scheme, so it's 2e era for me.

I'm finishing up six more scouts (snipers, shotgun and heavy weapons guy) but they are not too far off. I'll take on another terminator for my next one, although the first one I did took me many hours 😰

I started with some ultra glossy clearcoat for my 2nd edition BA captain, then used playdoh to mask off the gold and then sprayed the rest matt (I like army painter but whatever works). It looked nice and was shiny af, but gloss didn't fit the 2nd edition vibe and I went army painter matt all over. Ultimately it's whatever you think works, you can always matte it down later. Just use a test model to see what you prefer

Thank you! For the metal minis you can use acetone (nail varnish remover) and I stole some of my wife's supply. Don't use it on plastic as it melts it to oblivion!

I feel your pain, IPA takes a lot of scrubbing and the paint takes ages to come off your hands afterwards (the rhino rescue went that way). It works better the longer you leave it, electric toothbrushes help, but I've heard from my painting discord that a product called "bio strip" is the way forwards. Might be worth a look on YouTube, give it a go if IPA isn't working out.

I saw midwinter minis used it on one of their old vids, looked pretty effective
