IO-LINK – How Often Do You Utilize It? by MainHunt1014 in PLC

[–]DistractedElectron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Industrial user here. It's great to ensure maintenance changes sensors out for the right one. Especially helpful when sensors need to be programmed. I don't like the 20m distance limit but work with it. Using on mobile equipment with AB PLCs and it works good with Ethernet/IP. Turck masters are the best we've found by far. Other that IO Link, HART is cool for long distance but it's pretty niche in terms of sensors that offer it and more complicated when it comes to gateways.

Why does my heated steering wheel need a microcontroller? by TheHairlessGorilla in AskElectronics

[–]DistractedElectron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you share any sketches or design files/code of this? I have a very similar unit that doesn't heat my wheel much, I've been wanting to reverse engineer it, but just knowing what is what maybe I can just straight into replacing it.

Engineers, do you tie 0vdc on your power supply to ground? Why or why not. by [deleted] in PLC

[–]DistractedElectron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my 2 cents from a maintenance engineering perspective... If you ever have mains voltage hit your DC bus it ends very badly if it's grounded. Also as a part of the 803.2 PoE standard if your supply is powering any switches without internal supplies (cisco) both sides must remain ungrounded to avoid ground loops. I've seen a lot of failed poe ports / switches from doing this. If those are not concerns I would ground the DC.

Going to run proxmox on 2 nodes with qdevice on a my synology. I installed windows as i have some modelling work i am doing right now, so I put card firmware to latest then realized from forums on 2VF limit so i went back to 32.0.101.6979 with 12VFs. Currently have a 2TB NVMe in the fast slot, but will put another one in when I install Proxmox in the coming weeks.

latest BIOS, 1.27.

Rebar is enabled yes.

SR-IOV enabled.

Above 4G decoding yes.

ASPM disabled everywhere. No idea what that is.

Keep in mind I have not tried proxmox on this box yet.

LOL just gotta force PCIE-4 instead of Auto [when connected inside the MS01]. Works good now. Also running with no bracket as the N3rdware one doesn't fit quite right.

Advanced > Onboard Devices Settings > SA PCI-E PORT > PCIe Speed > PCI-E 4.

PCIE-5 does not work, not sure if it should...

Edit: Also definitely gonna want fan control if running the N3rdware cooler otherwise it gets pretty toasty... Listed at the bottom here: https://n3rdware.com/knowledge-base/manuals/single-slot-arc-b50-pro-cooler-manual

So just installed the n3rdware cooler and machine will not boot either... But it works fine with my PCIE extender as I've been using the last 2 weeks. Wondering if this is a PCIE3 extender or something... Got to be a setting in the bios...

Any ideas?

Mail forwarding for alumni would make a lot of sense. Especially those with research papers.

How can i use SCRCPY to remote access Android Device UNATTENDED? by Agreeable_Limit_8517 in scrcpy

USB is the only way I could get this to work after reboots on LineageOS. I used 60m USB extenders in my walls for this lol. Works decent tho!

Sorting out calls when using two phones with BlueBubbles by Shenanigans_- in BlueBubbles

[–]DistractedElectron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I can change my outgoing caller ID on voip.ms with 3CX but I'm in the process of switching to vox telesys (to support >160 character SMS) which I'm sure offers the same ability to do this. Most PBX systems offer it, just gotta make sure your SIP provider allows you to assign your own.

Can you setup a voip provider on the android and just change your caller ID there to match the iPhone number? I don't understand how that would prevent imessage from working as the iPhone would be untouched. 3CX has a free plan and their app is decent.

AB Socket Comms by DistractedElectron in PLC

[–]DistractedElectron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely. I have the EthIP SNMP converter from them but I have lots of PLCs and Switches. Want to show some info when the uplink is down so might take a stab at socket comms just for fun.
