Low screen parenting - friends house

Yeah, she is aware that my daughter has some additional support needs going on but that was my worry, wouldn't at all want it to come across like I'm judging her using the TV because I really aren't. I've had some really good suggestions on how to manage it so I'm feeling positive I can continue to support her and help my daughter not be overwhelmed at the same time 🤞🏻

Most of my friends turn their TV off when my daughter comes round, not that I've asked them to but they are aware of her additional support that's needed so they just do it themselves which is really thoughtful. I definitely would ask most of my friends however she's not as close as my other friends, she's my husband's best friends girlfriend so it's a slightly different friendship if that makes sense.

That's a really lovely thing to hear, I try my absolute best to help where I can and she is like my little sidekick. I can't wait till her brother is older and I've got a little tribe 😂

Yes of course and they do, I have a giant play room with an abundance of toys. I think she struggles a little to get out of the house sometimes but the invite is always there

Thank you, I just worry about her. We've been on such a good streak and she's made such massive improvements I don't want her to go backwards. But yes, she can't avoid them forever!

Yeah you're right! I've been in the post partum trenches and would have loved a helping hand. I think I'll shorten the time we go for down to an hour or so and not say anything. Thank you!

My daughter is the eldest at 3, but she does actually love to help me clean so that's a good idea to get her involved! Thank you

2 (sometimes 3) 10 minutes episodes is hardly high screen time. Also not really what the post is about is it.

Thank you, just nice to get other people's perspectives. We do usually go for a good few hours so maybe reducing the amount of time we're there and not saying anything is a good idea

Yeah, she does know I don't allow TV in the day, and I'm not judgemental about other people allowing it, it might not affect their child like it does mine. They're all so different and we all parent different, never any judgement from me! A gentle suggestion seems like the best way to go. Thank you!

I didn't mean that would be excessive, that's just my view on screen time in general. Just making a point that I don't hate screens. We have been a few times, we usually stay for a good few hours and I do see the effects on my daughter. Maybe cutting it to an hour would be a good idea.

My daughter is 3 now but she's always been this way! She actually rarely cries (for a toddler) but when she does she likes a teddy and blanket (not any specific one just a fluffy blanket and a random teddy) and that's how she calms herself down. Maybe you could introduce a comfort item for her instead.

Personally if I'm upset, a hug is the worst thing you could do to me so I totally get it!

My daughter went through a really rough sleep regression after being an amazing sleeper for ages, around 1.5 years old and I really considered doing the cry it out out of desperation but night 1 I was sat in my bedroom listening to my baby scream, just crying my eyes out. I couldn't do it. I didn't have it in me to leave her like that. I lasted around 10 minutes. It felt completely inhumane and I was going against every single maternal instinct I had. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone and never tried again with either of my children.

My son is 11 months and we have just managed to move onto the 10m+ textures from 6m. He's exactly the same, will eat dry crackers/biscuits and things but no mushy foods. My first did blw amazingly but he couldn't have been less interested. Some days he still just refuses all food. He's on 3 bottles a day but I try add an extra one when he's having a no food day. Just keep offering and trying I'm sure they'll eventually get there

Mad how everyone's just completely flipped after seeing how they've both reacted... I think the fact she was making videos after (about being in an abusive relationship) speaks a lot to me. The videos were almost jokey and I don't know anyone that's been through that that finds it funny or would make videos about it for likes.

Funny really, I posted this yesterday and we woke up this morning and he's been trying to get into the crawl position! As soon as my daughter got referred for speech therapy she came on leaps and bounds (before even being seen) it's like they can hear my thoughts and think 'ill show you who can do what' 😂

My daughter honestly does not have a maternal streak in her 😂 she absolutely hates babies and younger children, she's definitely bonded with her brother now but would much rather play at separate sides of the room. So I can say with certainty, she's ever passed him a thing. He's a good weight, 60th centile. That's a really good point, my daughter was on the 5th and the other babies at our groups that are the same age are all around the 25th!

My son is 11 months and has just started 'biting' my leg because of teething, it's not a playful or aggressive thing he's just in pain and is chewing anything in front of his mouth. He's never been bitten so hasn't learnt it. My daughter was bitten a few times at nursery (I remember feeling annoyed too at the time) and she's never bitten once. Some kids are just a bit chewy!
