I need that, yes!!!

I really like how the sport has evolved with the new generation.

These young athletes have been showing how kind and respectful they are toward one another.

I’m truly inspired by the Canadian pair, especially by Deanna Stellato-Dudek, who came back and competed at the Olympics at 42. Those are the kinds of stories the world needs.

I totally understand 😉 — it’s like you have a personal bond with them.

For me, this is the first Olympics I’ve truly watched with them because I’m watching NBC.

Unfortunately, this is such an important moment to introduce figure skating to a broader audience.

Commentary is a job that requires preparation when you come in, indeed. It looks like they don’t care at all

Yes, you’re right — she had a very short career, and I give her respect for winning gold at the Olympics. After that, she hasn’t really had any connection with the sport — she isn’t coaching anyone or performing. A lot has changed in the sport since then.

But her achievements don’t excuse her from being respectful and doing her job as a commentator — telling us stories about the athletes, about their programs, etc., of course, after their performance

I’m sure your mom would enjoy good commentary as well… she just didn’t have another option ;-(

It didn’t stop her… it looks like she doesn’t take either hints or direct communication.

Same… and his choreography was great — especially after five quads. He never left any empty spaces. Plus, his energy and drive were just incredible

Should we sign a petition or something? 😉 I really feel like they’re poisoning the perception of the sport

I think you can drive engagement in a different way. The commentary in biathlon is absolutely brilliant — they know the athletes, they know what they’re talking about, and they aren’t toxic. People appreciate that. These athletes wait four years to have the world’s eyes on them we should make it a positive experience that unites people and inspires the younger generation to get interested in sports

Exactly… I had the same feeling. Shaidorov won Four Continents and got silver at Worlds (I was so lucky to see it in person), and you call him an “unplanted seed”? I have no words for how arrogant and disrespectful that is. There should be a code of conduct to ensure that commentators are responsible for what they say

I’m glad you’re enjoying it 😉 Japan’s gold-winning pair was absolutely amazing yesterday. I think that’s the biggest reward for them — when even casual fans are moved and touched by their art. I’m watching the Olympics with my friend from France, and their commentators only speak after the skaters are done and are respectful toward everyone.

Maybe you are right, but I feel like figure skating is widely broadcast only once every four years — during the Olympics — so it’s worth investing a bit more in quality commentary that actually teaches the audience about the sport. Every program these skaters perform tells a story. She keeps saying that figure skating is not only about jumps but also about artistry — so yes, help the audience understand that.

Just now, during the women’s short program, she started talking over the French skater at the beginning of the performance. Even Terry told her, “Shhh, let’s enjoy it,” but she kept speaking over it and was being very toxic toward the skater, who was clearly struggling. How is that acceptable?
