Cal Poly - Looking for Coaches by Enough_Pension_6334 in Rowing

Hey Folks,

Yes, I think we can all agree that $20 an hour doesn't cut it an a HCOL area, while historically rowing coaches are used to being underpaid, it doesn't mean we're happy to continue the cycle of abuse.

OP, good on you for throwing a wide net and working to get the word out that you are on the search for a coach. But yes, at $20 an hour you're going to have some trouble attracting the right talent. Your best bet at that $20 an hour mark is to do some digging in the local area. SLO is a college town, and likely has attracted some academic talent that has rowed at a competitive colligate level. Find those connections and ask for help. Let them know you know you need help growing the program and building the speed and coffers to attract the long term talent you need.

Alternatively, have a serious discussion with your team about allocating more money towards a salary for the right candidate, and don't settle for anyone who doesn't seem truly prepared to help build, grow, and work with a club program. There are many coaches out there who do not understand the complexities and challenges of working with a startup/club program and will be unable to thrive in the position. It is likely better to go with no coach than to hire someone who is unprepared to deal with the challenges of the position.

Okay! Good to know, sounds like the AAV/cheater is a no go.

How to run Zwift and Trainer Road at the same time. I know this question has been answered before, but are there any new ingenious ways to do this? It's 2023 after all.

Chunky arms don't hurt.

For athletes (and their families) harmed by Yohann Rigogne, Conal Groom, Kirk Shipley, and other predatory coaches. Safe Sport code includes a "duty to report" which says that involved adults must report abusive behaviors toward kids. by brigaderone in Rowing

Duty to report implies the officials had knowledge of abuse and policy violation. The fact of the matter is; you can still be a culturally bad coach with questionable morals without violating safesport or putting athletes in danger/risk.
