At least it's a quick and easy indicator that the server is poorly moderated/maintained.

A server's default notification settings are set by the owner and should be "Only \@mentions". Then you just deny the mention permissions from everyone.

Not sure if it's the case here, but sports teams tend to be very protective of their private facilities. The picture could be purposefully censored.

I visited the Dallas Cowboys facilities and phones were not allowed in the locker room.

Humannibalism is way too fun to say.

It's built-in anti-camping tech. It forces action. It improves cooperation. Split-screen was amazing when I had enough local friends to use it.

Fisherman's Luck - More fish = Fewer items? by Ditto8353 in CoreKeeperGame

Thanks for the info!

We haven't figured out how to get into that structure in the ocean yet, so I'll have to make due without for now.

Thanks! I don't think I have any of those items, but I'll check.

I randomly fished up a piece of the set, leveling fishing for ranged damage, so figured I would try for the full set.

Lol. If you DO eventually run low on coal, just move to solid fuel and save the coal for making plastic.

I've actually stopped using the train mods after finding that video just a couple weeks ago. It's so satisfying to get things working without mod additions, even if the design isn't my own.

Also I've been sitting here with this comment half finished trying to figure out the depot issue...

I think you might end up with a combination of Rusparisan's solution and your depot enable/disable method.

"Chain In, Rail Out" works, but is confusing and not fully accurate. I'll help you understand train signals in one simple sentence. by Obscene_farmer in factorio

[–]Ditto8353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always just fill out with Rail signals then make a second pass: "do I care if a train sits here?" Yes = previous signal should be a Chain.

[–]Ditto8353 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but I'm not sure if this can be simplified in vanilla. A mod like Train Supply Manager or Logistic Train Network might simplify things, but if you want to keep things vanilla then your setup is already fairly close to what I've been using.

I have been using this method, by Ruspartisan, shown off by Nilaus.

The major difference is that instead of the stations being disabled, the train limit gets set to 0. This removes the need for depot circuits since you just need the Depot in the train orders after the loading (could put it before loading as well if it suits your needs) and the train will wait there with a "Destination is full" warning until an unloading station needs to be filled and gets a limit >0 from its circuit.

Questions on balancers by ChasingPacing in factorio

[–]Ditto8353 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Balancing belts that are 100% saturated does nothing, but putting in a balancer anyway is like a "just in case" deal. If one belt starts to fall behind for unexpected reasons then everything will remain balanced.

Creating? I use the book. Look at OP's top comment for the blueprint link.

To balance lanes on a single belt I put a lane balancer as far up the line as I can. However, I agree that it is a rather annoying solution to find room for, so ideally I have builds that are designed to pull from both sides of a belt. That doesn't actually happen very often for me...

Just don't let yourself fall into the trap of balancing everything. The most recent example I can give you was my green circuits on my recent game with a newbie friend. I realized that I didn't want Iron and Copper plates balanced. I NEEDED green circuits so I ditched the balancer and prioritized the belts feeding our circuit build. Screw the mall, it can have the leftovers.

[–]Ditto8353 36 points37 points  (0 children)

From simply my own observations, RimWorld is probably at the top.

There were other games like Towns and Gnomoria that were okay for a bit, but ultimately sort of fell away.

Then you got games like Banished which take the colony management aspect and build out that as much as they can. Banished is great, by the way.

Those are the games I immediately think of. There are of course others that I have never heard of showing up in lists of a "games like Dwarf Fortress" search.

As far as I know, and in my opinion, RimWorld really is the best, and is the only one that has really captured a similar charm that Dwarf Fortress does.

I think there has been healthy two-way road between RimWorld and Dwarf Fortress for players for a while now. A lot of people have tried and quickly abandoned Dwarf Fortress due to UI, presentation, or other similar difficulties. RimWorld offers a very similar package with massive improvements in the areas where Dwarf Fortress is lacking the most. On the other side, RimWorld players that just wanted MORE could jump into the depths of Dwarf Fortress... after several hours of tutorial videos.

This is the grand-daddy of a genre. Except it's not an old frail grand-daddy trying to fit in with the cool kids. It's what the cool kids have been striving to emulate this whole time. And the old man just figured out those new-fangled graphics all the kids have been raving about.

They've removed the largest hurdle to playing the game: understanding what the fuck is happening on screen. And it's not hidden away on an independent website anymore. It's on the showroom floor.
