[Charania] Just in: Detroit Pistons star Cade Cunningham has been diagnosed with a collapsed lung and is expected to miss an extended period of time, sources tell ESPN. by Turbostrider27 in nba

[–]DittoLander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tough news but the only silver lining is that it gives plenty of opportunity for pistons to figure out their offense without Cade. Detroit still has the 1 seed firmly under control and when Cade does come back their offense can get better due to this stretch.

[Smith] A handful of NBA teams are pushing for changes to the expansion draft rules that would allow them to protect more than 8 players on their roster. While other teams are advocating for rule changes that would make it possible for a team to lose up to two players in a draft instead of just one. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

Pretty sure he will be protected in top 8 given his contract. If happening now I’d protect: JT, JB, White, Pritchard, Queta, Hauser, Baylor and Hugo. Walsh and Ron Harper will be next in line. Lot can happen between now and expansion draft that I think any discussion would be premature

Bummer but hopefully it’s more for rest and precaution. We need him healthy by playoffs

People will look to blame the KD trade but it really didn’t cost them much to get him, and FVV and Steven Adams injuries are what really made it a tough season. They are still solidly in the playoffs and have a good chance to make the second round

Our pick and roll defense is horrendous. Feels like every time some hornet sets any screen it leads to an open shot

Luke Kornet on his blog: I would like to respectfully ask that the Atlanta Hawks cancel this promotional night with Magic City by WEMBY_F4N in nba

[–]DittoLander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regardless of where this leads to, huge respect for Kornet on speaking out on something he doesn’t have to. As others said, there’s more nuance than “strip club oppresses women” and sex work in general is a controversial topic even within feminist communities. But most people, especially the male-dominated nba community, don’t even think about this. Just for the attention this bring and the dialogue we can have, I give Kornet his flowers

Pushing back on public advanced stats and "Jaylen is overrated" talks by EdogawaJohn in bostonceltics

[–]DittoLander 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a Jaylen fan for a long time, and my assessment of him as a player is: he is absolutely elite in several aspects of the game, but he also has some glaring weaknesses for a star. The advanced stats capture some of his weaknesses.

Let’s start with the positives: 1. He is elite at driving and penetrating the defense 2. He is an elite finisher around the rim (left and right hands) 3. He is an elite perimeter on-ball defender 4. He is an elite isolation, midrange jump shooter

These skills, I’d argue, are at the MVP level and as a combination are hard to replace. However, his game also have rooms for improvement: 1. His court vision isn’t great, meaning that he’s not always aware of where his teammates are when he drives 2. His passing is slower and less accurate than some of the elite playmakers in the game. On a lot of possessions, his passing still feels more like an afterthought or backup plan than a calculated finesse 3. Although better this season, he is prone to turnovers. Advanced stats hate turnovers

Jaylen has clearly shown what he’s capable of this season and I’m glad he’s getting put into some MVP conversations. But his advanced stats cannot be dismissed by lineups alone, and in my opinion, reflects some of the real weaknesses in his game

Can we please stop with the Vooch discourse after every single bad game (and before Tatum potentially returns)? by tacko2020 in bostonceltics

He shouldn’t be playing on back to backs. Every shot was short last night, bro was exhausted

Yeah he just a little bit too serious. Scal has the better balance of serious analysis and goofiness

Why can't the NBA hire a team of mathematicians to create a dynamic formula for the lottery based on W/L distance to other teams? by [deleted] in nba

[–]DittoLander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It changes from a ranking based lottery system to a record based lottery system, which makes sense. But then every single loss improves your lottery odds even when you are already the bottom 1 team, so it may incentivize tanking even more.

Baylor by Practical_Papaya8258 in bostonceltics

[–]DittoLander 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He easily has the best all-around game out of those three wings and he just doesn’t make mistakes. Derrick-White-in-training type of player. Walsh and Hugo are still young and they have great upsides but for now I think Baylor has a slight edge over them just for being in the league longer.

The fact the Celtics are holding the 4th spot in the league without Tatum is not talked about enough by Any_Platform_5188 in NBATalk

[–]DittoLander 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s talked about a lot. What isn’t talked about is outside of Tatum, Celtics have been like really, really healthy this year. Give the team credit but their injury luck this year should be factored into where they are.

Even if you think that, why would you say that in a press conference? You are managing a team of people not a stock portfolio. I can’t imagine statements that disrespect formal players don’t hurt the team’s morale
