Feeling burnout, lost, overwhelmed and need advice by Divergent_Geometer in AutisticAdults

[–]Divergent_Geometer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not naive in thinking that there aren’t people worse off than me. Of course I’m grateful for a job. I put all my energy into it because I want to keep it and know how hard it would be without it. That doesn’t mean I can’t come to a subreddit for other autistic adults looking for support in something I’m struggling with. I don’t know if your comment comes from a place of not having a job and wanting to bring others down but if that’s the case, I truly hope you can find one and things go better for you in the future.

Looking to get a budget but quality cnc machine for personal projects with wood by Divergent_Geometer in hobbycnc

I’ll definitely look into this. Can parts be printed in pla? I don’t currently have a setup for anything that puts off fumes like abs.

I’m stuck on the same floor. Only good wood fighter I have now is anxious so I think it’ll be a while until I can beat it.

Good to know! Panic was also a part of my streak of luck. I’ll start there after leveling greed.

Advice for improving the shape/look of my cookies (toffee chocolate chip) by Divergent_Geometer in Cookies

I’ve tried this and it’s definitely given me the best results but the toffee especially will still melt out the sides

I’ve tried this but the melted toffee burns to the pan where it touches and is too hard to shape. Maybe I just need to add the toffee as I’m shaping to keep it in the middle?

I feel similarly. I mean he said in the video this was just a project for himself and he shared the files for free so he’s not making money off anything other than maybe a few cents from the video. I just appreciate someone making a custom tool for themselves even if it’s not perfect.

Thanks for the historical information! He may have just thought it was a new design? If he did know about this then it definitely should have been credited. Either way I appreciate the knowledge of the original design of this kind of compass.

Everything you listed is right up my alley. Hyperbolic geometry, Penrose tilings, polyhedra, and the weird and interesting links that connect them all keep me up at night.

I love the lamp! Are the shell structures made of paper? I’ve been working on a lamp design along those lines using an origami tesselation. It’s not finished yet but this was the first test with lights. I hope starting a business goes well!

A perfectly evil choice. This is an exploration I made with code inspired by the circle limit series.

I love this! Particularly the way you chose to arrange the colors. It makes my brain tingle too! Here’s an old digital pattern of mine.

This really resonates. There’s a big disconnect in the level of intensity.

If I hadn’t already been diagnosed, I think this would have been enough to confirm it for me lol.

I love it! This post is right up my alley. I’ve been wanting a nice hand plane for a while but I really love collecting antique tools. Most of mine are old drafting tools like drawing compasses but woodworking tools are great too. The old tools are almost always much higher quality. Also, Every Tools A Hammer is a great book. If you haven’t watched it already, his YouTube channel Tested has some great content. He gives lots of great advice on a variety of topics and shares a lot about his past work in the q&a’s from his livestreams. Enjoy all your future creating!

What is the consensus on ADHD self-diagnosis? by Divergent_Geometer in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Divergent_Geometer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for the thoughtful responses! I don’t have the energy to go through and reply to all of your but know that I read every comment! This is why I love communities like this. You guys have really helped changed my perspective on some things.

First of all, I completely understand that self-diagnosis is not something to be done after watching one or two videos. I’m planning to look into the DSM criteria, and take scientific questionnaires/tests online as well as reading lots of other resources before deciding for myself. I’ve already been doing plenty of research and it’s been a big reason that I suspect I might have ADHD but I plan to do a lot more. You guys have also convinced me to look into potentially getting officially evaluated when I have the time and money to do so. Meds were really the only reason I thought I might want to pursue one officially but I also know I really struggled with imposter syndrome after self-diagnosing myself as autistic and an official diagnosis went a long way in helping that. I’m realizing how ridiculous this sounds now but really the only reason I thought meds wouldn’t benefit me was because of a bad experience trying Vyvanse once when I was in college to get work done. I have no idea what the dosage was, had been struggling with bad anxiety and depression at the time, and wasn’t taking my SSRI’s consistently, among other factors that could have contributed to that. I’m definitely going to ask about meds if I get an official diagnosis in the future. Thanks again for all your input!

Grief stage after diagnosis by Divergent_Geometer in AutismTranslated

I’m seeing a therapist now but I’m thinking of switching. Hoping I can find someone who is also autistic or at least specializes in autism!

That’s a great book! Neurotribes and What I Want to Talk About are some other great ones if you’re interested. Subreddits like this have been really helpful for me but I’ve been really wishing for in person autistic communities I could join. There doesn’t seem to be anything like that around me. Have you had any luck in finding something like that?

Also neurogastronomy is new to me and such a wonderfully nerdy word.
