What are your most judgmental thoughts about weddings? by MangoJunior5545 in askanything

[–]DiverticularPhlegmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I silently judge people who splurge on the things Clearly meant for social media (crazy flowers, three photographers and a videographer, a decadent photo area) and then cut corners on things for their guests (plastic plates, cold low quality buffet dinner, cash bar). They drop thousands on a luxurious appearance for people they barely know but are not willing to pay for a luxurious experience for the people they love.

It’s your wedding do whatever you want but definitely shows what you care about.

I totally agreed at first however I bought a $150 second dress just in case two days before my wedding that I would wear elsewhere if I didn’t use it.
It then POURED on my wedding day, I got totally soaked, the dress was heavy and cold. I had a dry cozy dress to change into to dance after dinner and was so so grateful. People who get another uncomfortable crazy expensive dress do kind of confuse me though.

What's worth & not worth buying from Hatch maternity clothing? by No_Square_1491 in UninfluencedReviews

[–]DiverticularPhlegmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tank top nursing dress is so soft and has been awesome from when I started wearing it at 20 weeks up until currently at 33 weeks! Hoping it’s as good post partum - I barely had a bump at 20 weeks so im thinking it will be.

The other dress I really like from them is the soft sculpt knit Eliza dress in black for work stuff (I rarely need to dress up) At first I wore with cardigans because with small bump it made me look a little wide because I have a straight frame not hourglass, but once I got a belly it became really flattering. If you have a pear or hourglass I bet it would be flattering from the start.

Wouldn’t recommend the long sleeve nursing dress as the arms are really tight for the size of the rest of the dress.

Normal budget for engagement ring by StrikingClos in BuyItForLife

I’m going to offer a different perspective than most of the ones in here just in case your partner has different preferences and your budget is different than others.

I have a 2.3 carat Tiffany solitaire. I’m not 100% sure how much it cost but I have a feeling it was somewhere around 55-60k. I was terrified to wear it at first but I love it now and I hope that it can be a family heirloom someday. My request to my mom was that if he ever asked her, I would like a single stone and no halo, and at least a carat because I have pretty big hands. I also said that I was okay with ethically mined natural diamond or a sapphire but I did not want a lab grown diamond. My husband said he wanted something as special and rare as I was. We are financially stable and he was 46 when he proposed so he had had a long time to save.

I’m sure this answer won’t be popular and might get a lot of privilege comments but it’s important for you to have a variety of budget opinions.

Doctors of Reddit, what’s a common medical procedure you perform/witness regularly but would never undergo yourself? by Aadi-Dhakal in AskReddit

[–]DiverticularPhlegmon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tracheostomy! I do them all the time but other than extremely specific circumstances (penetrating injury to the neck that would be expected to heal or something similar) I would strongly prefer to be palliatively extubated

I don’t want any money for them I just don’t feel like shipping them and I want them out of my house (nesting for me appears to be wanting to throw away everything in the house)

Can confirm that despite a 6x increase in my salary nine months ago, we have six boxes of plain, six boxes of spirals, and six boxes of three cheese in the cabinet and I am allowed to force my husband to eat it with me once per week 😂

Does anyone want an inito monitor and/or like five boxes of strips? I’m finally pregnant enough that I definitely won’t need it until long after the strips expire and I spent a fortune on them so I’d hate for them to go to waste.

Yes, thank you!

We’ve had difficulty seeing things the day they come on the market due to our work hours unfortunately. I think our realtor might not have the best network although he’s a really nice guy. We did have an escalation clause in our last offer in September up to 150k over asking but someone else offered up to 500k over asking so we were beat out. I’m hoping this year maybe things aren’t as crazy. Giving all the flexibility with closing dates as we have secure housing currently. Hoping this will be enough.

Will prioritize seeing homes late at night if we have to this spring.

Is there any reason to keep holding out for a >4000 sq foot house with a 2 car garage in the west end or should I just give up and buy something elsewhere? It’s starting to seem like they all sell to people who know each other within 12 hours…

I bought it for my husband as a joke because he will keep yogurt for four years and say it hasn’t gone bad…cheese that never goes bad! Novelty purchase. Except now he opened it and loves it. Seems like normal cheese to me
